Friends of Fort McAllister State Historic Park 07.11.2020

We have some unfortunate news to report about The Running Dead Zombie 5k. The park sustained very serious damage from hurricane Matthew. We have well over 100 trees down, as well as other wind and water damage. We planned to hold this event on October 7th. We rescheduled the race for the 21st of October, but the park will not be open by then. It may not be open until late November, and with that uncertainty, we are hesitant to schedule it for another fall date. We are going t...o either hold this event in the spring, or wait for next October. Everyone who registered will have the option to receive a refund, or transfer your registration fee to another race. We were SO EXCITED to have this race, and had been planning it for over a year. To say that we are disappointed would be an understatement. The purpose of this event was to show how beautiful and awesome our park is. We love this place, and are deeply saddened by the damage it sustained. The Friends of Ft McAllister group will be holding a cleanup event at the park, and we will give our volunteers a Running Dead tee shirt to show our appreciation. We will put our park back together, and be crawling with zombies before you know it. Stay scary, friends. See more

Due to Hurricane Matthew, Fort McAllister State Historic Park will be closed entirely to the public starting at 12:00pm tomorrow, Thursday (October 6) and will ...remain closed throughout Friday (October 7) and Saturday (October 8). Our doors may re-open on Sunday (October 9), but could possibly remain closed in the case of extensive damages. This is a mandatory evacuation notice for the park, which means that campers and cottage guests must evacuate. During this time, our front gate will be closed to all foot and vehicle traffic, and the public will not be permitted to visit the park during these times. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope everyone will take precautions to stay safe as we deal with the upcoming storm. We will have the park back online as soon as possible! Thanks! - Management
