As our 2021 virtual staging of the Fueling Georgia’s Future Student Chef Competition picks up steam, we are developing potential School Nutrition Heroes of tomorrow! This year, we welcomed several talented teams, representing Georgia middle and high schools, in several rounds of competition. We are extremely proud of our students, who all worked with their local School Nutrition Professionals and Culinary Teams to field creative recipes, which were assessed and kitchen-teste...d in the process of determining which, among the batch of excellent options, would rise to the top. Winning recipes from the Student Chef Competition will be standardized for feature in school meal menus across Georgia and our high school winner will go on to represent the state in the Southeast Regional Competition. The integration of culinary, food-based learning, and farm-to-school opportunities into the school day, is a key part of the way our School Nutrition Heroes help fuel development of the whole-child. GADOE Culinary Specialist, Chef Michael Dubose has been leading the reconstruction of submitted recipes as part of the competition rubric.
