From our amazing artist Tibby: I’m Tibby Llewellyn and I’ve been a member-artist in Gallery 209 since October 1977 and it has been an amazing 40+ years. The Gallery opened in October of 1975 and 3 Savannah artistsJane Lyon, Alice Blank, and Barbara Weatherly organized a meeting of all their artists friends in the open space at 209 E River St and presented the proposal to form a artist co-operative. ... The River Street area was still in the construction phase and the brick sidewalks had not even been put in. In the first 2 years, many artists came and went and then Gallery 209 started to thrive. Amazingly enough, 4 artists who joined in the 1970’s are still active members Bryan Attaway (pottery), Randee Powell (natural jewelry), Sharon Saseen (painter), and me (batik). We all continue to get inspiration from our fellow Gallery 209 artists and are so proud to have been an enduring part of this wonderful gallery!
