The Cool Sharks Have a New Coach! As many of you already know, Coach MJ welcomed a new baby daughter this month, Zuri Saree El-Amin, born Feb 1, 2021. He is busy adjusting to parenthood as well as his new role as a year-round full-time member of the Dekalb Aquatics coaching staff. So it is with great sadness as well as enormous appreciation for 6 wonderful years that we say good-bye to Coach MJ. We will really miss you!!! And now we welcome our new Head Coach, Mandi Bell! The Garden Hills Pool Board and the community of Cool Sharks families would like to give a heartfelt THANK YOU to Cool Sharks swim programs director, Sharon Bray, for a successful swim season! Sharon's work in organizing swim practices, managing the roster of swimmers and key role in drafting Garden Hills' season-opening-plan submission to the City of Atlanta helped make a difficult su...mmer a bit more pleasant for all of our swim families. We give full credit to Sharon for her plan, which resulted in Garden Hills being one of only two City of Atlanta pools allowed to operate in a limited capacity during this exceptional summer. Thanks to Sharon's immeasurable initiative and passion for our swim programming, over 200 swimmers took part in summer league practices and mini-meets, and 130 swimmers returned for a modified Fall League season, all without any reported Covid-19-related illnesses. The pandemic has seen many acts of heroism and selflessness. Sharon Bray is our very own hero! We thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Important News Regarding Fall Swim Team! Registration to Open Tomorrow, August 1st! Practice Dates: August 10th - September 3rd The Cool Sharks are going to continue practicing through August, and we have a few openings available on our Fall Team. This is not our usual fall team (ASA is not offering a fall league this year), and there will not be a fall meet. The 2020 Fall Swim Team is simply a continuation of our highly successful, socially-distanced 2020 Summer Swim Team. ...We have a very comprehensive plan, which was approved by the city, for social-distancing, capacity limits, cleaning/sanitizing, and running practices as safely as possible. Registration will open Saturday Aug 1st at 7:00 am for swimmers who were not a member of our 2020 Summer Swim Team. Space is extremely limited. This is not a beginner program for new swimmers - in order for us to smoothly run socially-distant practices all swimmers should either be returning Cool Sharks swim team members or be confident swimmers able to swim independently the first day of practice (across the deep end without stopping, on front using arms and legs, not afraid to put face in the water). Important Announcement: 2020 Summer Swim Team Registration is Closed! We're so sorry but our registration has already closed. Many of our age-groups have been full since March with a pretty large wait-list. Unfortunately, with all the social distancing rules and resulting lower capacity numbers for our pool, we are not able to accommodate any additional team members at this time. Mayor & City Council to Host Conference Call on 4/30 re: City's Response to COVID-19

The Sale of 2020 Garden Hills Pool Memberships Has Been Postponed Until May 14th at 9 p.m.! After much thoughtful discussion, the GHPPA Board has decided to delay the sale of our 2020 memberships until May 14th. We came to this very difficult decision as a response to the uncertainty and the extraordinary circumstances that the coronavirus has imposed on all of us. Please know that we have been hard at work during the off-season planning for a fun-filled, safe 2020 season. Ho...wever, with a situation that is in rapid flux, we did not believe that it would be prudent to offer the sale of memberships on April 23rd since the City of Atlanta continues to impose restrictions on large gatherings. Please know that the opening date for the sale of memberships is subject to change again as well as the opening date for the pool if the City of Atlanta continues to restrict activities further. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience that may result from this decision. Thank you for your patience and understanding. May you and your family remain healthy! On-line registration opens Thursday, May 14th at 9:00 p.m. To control crowding and allow for a safe and positive experience at the pool, the Board of Garden Hills Pool & Park Association has limited the number of memberships that are available for purchase each season. These memberships are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Memberships allow up to the designated number of individuals to be listed for pool access. Children born on or after August 31, 2018 are exempted from membership fees and should not be counted when determining the appropriate membership to cover all participants in a household. Participants on a single account must be either the Primary Account Holder's partner, spouse, their direct descendant living at the same residence or a caregiver/nanny.
