But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit. Jeremiah 17: 7-9

The world is indeed full of peril and in it there are many dark places. But still there is much that is fair. And though in all lands, love is now mingled with grief, LOVE still grows, perhaps, the greater. J.R.R. Tolkien I heard someone say yesterday that what’s happening in the world right is nothing new - it’s only that so much of it is coming to light. And I think there’s a lot to that. ... One thing I know for sure is that the same truths that have always triumphed over evil and despair still stand firm today. Love. Kindness. Wisdom. Beauty. Humility. Courage. Truth. These things have not gone away. And they are available to us in abundance. God says ask for wisdom and He will give it generously without finding fault. I’ve been praying for wisdom a lot these days. And alongside wisdom I’ve been given something else - peace. And that’s my prayer for you today as well. See more

Happy Lucky #7, My Love! Happy Anniversary! It has been an amazing, blessed, romance-novel-worthy adventure and I can’t wait to see where God leads us next. I would say yes a thousand times again. Love you, babe. (Also, what a beautiful day to celebrate in one of our favorite places.)

There is good news, There is good truth, That you could never change, No matter what you do. You are loved,... More than you know, More than you could hope for, After everything you've done. As sure as the sun will rise, And chase away the night, His mercy will not end. His mercy will not end. - @ellieholcomb See more

I’ve never seen a man love a child as deeply as you love our sweet Rhett Jagger. My love, we are so blessed to call you ours. Happy Father’s Day. @ Savannah, Georgia

Missing my Grandaddy Bill today. The time we spent together adventuring on the water. The sound of his laugh, his sophisticated southern drawl. The way he always smelled like coffee and woods and lakes. I miss the many ways he said I love you. He’s been fishing in Glory for many years now - but I swear, I feel him smiling down on me. Also, I still look at fish that way.

Psalm 139:23-24 We at Genteel & Bard have been, and will continue, to watch and listen and learn. We pray that these days will be the catalyst for real change, that the hearts of America will be softened to the plight of so many suffering hearts and moved to beautiful and fruitful action. We pray for hope, joy, true freedom, prosperity, abundance of happiness, opportunity, and peace of spirit for our black brothers and sisters and their children. We commit to playing an active part of seeing those prayers through. We have nothing but love for you all.

Starting this week off on the right foot. Enjoyed a lovely chat with my dear friend, @sweetnutmeg , this morning, enjoyed a cup of coffee in the park, and looking forward to a busy week ahead. We feel so blessed to be back to business. We’ve had a lot of guests especially interested in long American history lately, and it’s no surprise. There are so many lessons our predecessors learned, so much wisdom to be found in looking back at how we overcame difficult situations as a nation before. It always took time. But we’ve always made it through. And that old American spirit is alive and well.

We have five birthdays in our family this week (six if you count my mother’s dog, Boo ). May has always been a month full of joy and celebration for us. And we are determined that this year is no different. It’s so refreshing to see life turning back to normal (or pretty close to it) here in Georgia. As historians it’s been so interesting to live through such a historic moment in time in one of our nation’s oldest cities. And the general sentiment in our home has been, tha...t we’ve been here before - multiple times, actually - and each time America emerged stronger and smarter. We’re looking forward to the day when all of the current events are long behind us. But in the mean time, we continue to celebrate what is happy, what is noble, and what is true. True love. New beginnings. Perseverance. Joy. Yesterday our sweet Rhett Jagger turned 5 years old. And one day we’ll tell him all about the year we celebrated a little differently, and had one of the best times ever. See more
