Day 13 of Confederate History month. Lest we forget. I continue to work cleaning head stones and placing flags. I notice, obviously, many of these folks are f...orgotten. I ask people do you have any confederate ancestors in your family and most simply admit, I don’t know. Today the average 30 year old can not trace his ancestors back past the grandparents, on an average their Confederate ancestor would be a ggg granddad. If you live in the southwest Georgia area, I would be happy to help you trace your ancestry. If you are interested contact me and let’s get started, let’s do it now, Lest we forget. Or, bring what you know Saturday to the Mayhaw Festival in Colquitt, Miller County, Georgia. I will be on the square by the Confederate Monument. Parade at 10 am We will be there till 4 pm.

Saddened to have to say goodbye to another friend, Compatriot, and Masonic Brother who lay down his working tools. I will have the honors to perform his Masoni...c Funeral Rites at the graveside tomorrow at 6:00 PM in Whitesburg. He was one of the original founders of the Wool Hat Boys Confederate Military Lodge No. 1 and was a member of Forrest's Escort Camp No. 1239 Sons of Confederate Veterans in Villa Rica. He was also a reenactor and living historian; did a great Civil War Era surgeon's impression. He just received his 25 Year Apron from Sand Hill Lodge No. 350 presented by the Most Worshipful Grandmaster earlier this month. Sad to see Doc Burns go but it was good to see him happy at Sand Hill Lodge as my last memory. Rest in Peace, Brother. /G\ .: [><] https://www.martin-hightower.com/obit/Lewis-Arlin-LA-Burns

A QUOTE FROM A HART COUNTY SOLDIER, CO. B, 24TH GEORGIA I regret exceedingly that I have not been able to give the names of all those who fell in defense of their country, some by disease and some by the missiles of the enemy. Their bones lie scattered from Georgia to Pennsylvania. No monuments mark their last resting -place. They live, and we trust will ever live, in the hearts of their countrymen. The cause for which they sacrificed their lives was lost, but th...e sacrifice has not been in vain. They demonstrated to the world, against which they were fighting that the love of liberty still burned in their hearts, and that they were willing to meet death itself to maintain it. Let us teach our children and our children’s children to reverence their name’s and to imitate their examples." Capt. Alan S. Turner Co. B 24th Georgia(Lt. Dickson L. Robert E. Lee After the Surrender at Appomattox, General George Meade asked Lee how many men he had at Petersburg. Lee said he had held the entire Petersburg line with 33,000 men. Meade responded "I thought there were that many in front of me alone." It was Lee's innate ability to get the most out of his men that stands the test of history, as well as his understanding of his opponents and willingness to let subordinates make decisions. After replacing a severely injured Joe... Johnston at Fair Oaks, Lee forced George McClellan into the Seven Days Retreat. The indecisive battle of Antietam was offset by clear victories at Fredericksburg and Chancelorsville, only to move north to defeat at Gettysburg. Slowly forced south under the pressure of an overwhelming force by Grant, Lee defended a perimeter around Richmond and Petersburg with less than 40,000 men. Civil War Encyclopedia See more
