Berrien County Retired Educators Association (BCREA) held its first meeting of the year on October 14 with President Joyce Akins presiding. The meeting room and luncheon tables were decorated with an autumn theme by Linda Butler and Sharon Lewis with the box lunch meals being provided by the Bank of Alapaha and prepared by Blazin’ Hog BBQ. The devotional and blessing were given by Dona Fields. The featured speaker was State Representative Penny Houston who presented a progra...m on the election and the ballot information. Other honored guests were Debbie Scarborough with Association Member Benefits Advisors (AMBA) who is joining BCREA this year and Georgia Retired Education Association (GREA) Area 3 Director Brenda Moore. The officers for the year were installed by Ms. Moore. They are President, Joyce Akins; President-Elect, Jeanne Griffin; Secretary, Florence Moffett; and Treasurer, Vann Tucker. Ms. Moore delivered the GREA Award Certificates and BCREA member, Sharon Lewis, explained how BCREA had earned all the state awards including the top two awards the Unit of Excellence and the Unit of Distinction. All the Committee Reports were given by the Committee Chairpersons and the door prizes of cakes were presented to Don Young and Joan Drawdy.

Great happenings in Muscogee County! Muscogee REA held its general meeting on October 9, 2020. The program was our annual Legislative Forum. We were honored to have Representatives Carolyn Hughley and Richard Smith attend and speak to our members and hold a question answer session. There was a full agenda that included the following: (1) Recognition of Emeritus members Juantia Booker and Lula Smith for their years of service to public education in Muscogee County School Di...strict and active membership in GREA and MREA. (2) Area 9 director Donna Kemp presented GREA 2020 awards to past president Margaret Ingersoll and presented her with the 2020 GREA Leadership Award in recognition of her strong leadership of MREA. On October 24, 2020 the Cheering for MREA team participated in the 2020 Walk to End Alzheimer's by joining the virtual Athens walk. Members walked in their own neighborhood. The total donations are not in as of this writing, but we did surpass our goal of $500.

Coffee Atkinson REA members were represented at the signing of the Proclamation for Retired Educators Day in Georgia for Douglas and Atkinson County. Signing the proclamation at Pearson City Hall were: City of Pearson Mayor Robert Johnson, ATCO Commission Chairman Lace Futch and City of Willacoochee Mayor Samuel Newsome. GREA/CAREA members attending were Evon Floyd, Betty Anne Smith, President Linda Cribbs. Laverne Carver and Sue White. Signing the Proclamation at Douglas City Hall was Mayor Tony Paulk. Attending the signing was President Linda Cribbs, Jessie Porter and Elizabeth White.

White County Retired Educators received a proclamation for Georgia Retired Educator Day presented by the the White County Board Of Commissioners. President June Collins, Lamar Collins, Martha and Frank Seinkbill and Area Director Brenda Hunt attended the presentation.
