THIS WEEK, we've been challenged with an Animal Sweater Competition! Wear a sweater with an animal on it--or maybe an animal print--to play BINGO on Wednesday. Our guest judges will decide on the funniest or strangest or prettiest animal sweater, and the winner gets a free drink from the bar at Houck's!

Have you watched the recently-released film MA RAINEY’S BLACK BOTTOM on Netflix? It’s based on the play of the same name by August Wilson, and stars Chadwick Boseman and Viola Davis. August Wilson, prolific award-winning playwright, spent his career telling stories that reflect the experience of being Black in America. His first play was produced in 1976. Wilson wrote rich, complex characters who experience the heights of joy and the depths of tragedy, and his use of language... reflected his first love: poetry. He was called by the New York Times, one of the most important voices in the American theater. Notable about his work is that Wilson created a series of ten plays he called the Century Cycle. Each explores a different era of the 20th century, all set in one small area of Pittsburgh; the ten plays together are a way of exploring, understanding, and embracing the history that’s unique to Black Americans. MA RAINEY is one of the plays in the cycle. It’s inspired by the life of blues singer Gertrude Ma Rainey. See the link in the comments to read about all ten plays and how they fit together. Read about MA RAINEY in this article, and watch it if you’re a Netflix subscriber. https://apnews.com//new-york-academy-awards-august-wilson- See more
