"Georgia’s two U.S. senators are asking the federal government to get involved in reviewing a controversial proposed mine near the Okefenokee Swamp. Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock and Senator Jon Ossoff sent a letter this week to Martha Williams, deputy director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, who is a Biden administration appointee. Senator Tom Carper, D-Del., and Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., also signed the letter. The senators are asking the federal agency to help the state of Georgia on the permitting process for a proposed titanium dioxide mine located a few miles from the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge." https://bit.ly/33qraao

Air pollution from fossil fuels killed 350,000 people in the United States in a single year. And we know for certain that this pollution disproportionately affects Black, Latinx, and Indigenous communities. If fossil fuel corporations were held accountable for the racist impacts of their pollution, they would quickly cease to exist. We deserve a world beyond fossil fuels. It’s time to #EndFossilFuelRacism, learn more and take action: http://bit.ly/FFracismblog

"The entire life cycles of plastic emits greenhouse gases, said panelist Hermina Glass-Hill of [GIPL - Coastal Engagement Associate and] Susie King Taylor Women's Institute and Ecology Center. "And with that, it continues to warn our planet," she said. "It continues to increase climate (change) and affect folks in all kinds of ways. As you know, my sector is environmental justice. And climate change is not a respecter of persons. It doesn't know that you live in 31420 and I live in 31320, it doesn't know that. It's coming for us all." https://bit.ly/3h5n2ET

"We need to get engaged and investing in the spaces that we share together for the sake of our future," Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock said. "And while we're doing that, while we're building based on vision, I think we will push back against some of the forces of division in our country." https://bit.ly/3twcQYN We are grateful for Senator Rev. Warnock's time together with GIPL and the full IPL network last week! If you missed the special event on 4/28, you can view the recording via our Facebook page AND we'll be re-airing it later this month!
