We received this very cool photograph from a woman whose Great Aunt lived in Ware's Folly. That's her car in the picture!

We are honored to be part of Showpony's #wegiveashirt campaign. Our organization has been around for over 80 years and is housed in a 200 year old building. We rely on memberships, classes, donations, and fundraising to stay afloat and closing our doors due to the Pandemic is really taking a toll. To be in a community where we can all support each other, where local businesses like Showpony get creative and actively seek meaningful ways to help and give back in our community is heartwarming and gives us hope. Please consider buying one of our shirts as after 50 orders, we will receive $10 from each shirt sold. And there are a ton of other shirts from local businesses that you can check out as well! https://wegiveashirt.showpony.co//gertrude-herbert-instit/ #wegiveashirt #buylocal #supportaugusta

One our proudest moments was to host "Speaking Volumes, Transforming Hate" and it seems most relevant right now. Wish we could have it back in the galleries. https://ghia.org//speaking-volumes-transforming-hate-exhib

GHIA is pleased to announce the new exhibition Connection: Staci Swider and Amy Hart opens Sept 18 through Oct 30 in the Main Gallery by appointment only. Please see details below. Enjoy a virtual tour of the show here http://Staciswider.com/recent-works Connection: the action of linking one thing with another.... Staci Swider and Amy Hart first connected via Ciel Gallery in Charlotte, NC where they were both exhibiting members. Their work compliments each other as they are both artists who repurpose the old to create the new in colorful often unexpected ways. While Amy uses reclaimed utilitarian objects to create her three dimensional fanciful creatures, Staci uses old canvases and papers from previous works to bring her characters to life. For both women reconnecting with the past to create something new motivates their use of materials. To see more of their work online please visit https://amyhartdesign.com/ https://www.staciswider.com/ Due to Covid-19, Gallery admission is by appointment only. Please email Heather Williams at [email protected] to set up a time.

Registration still open for 10 Brushstrokes or Less at ghia.org Local artist Tom Crowther is getting all ready for the session that meets this Thursday via Zoom at 7pm... Come learn and create from home with others who enjoy painting! More about the Painting session: Students from beginners to seasoned artists will focus on brush selection and brush strokes while creating a composition using only 10 brushstrokes or less. Learning and having a basic knowledge of what size brush to select and how much paint should be loaded on the brush will not only help while blocking in a simple composition, but will also encourage the student to be less controlled and more expressive with their brush strokes. Although this exercise is geared towards the more painterly painters, it could serve as a warm up activity or as a way to break out of formulaic and fixed habits.
