Today the old gym at Gainesville High School is coming down. Many have shared their great memories. As I saw the photos and video today, I have thoughts of g...ratitude. When I played on this basketball court, there were only 2 sports for girls. Over the course of time, there were those that fought to expand sports for girls. Jean Gruhn’s advocating as Bobby Gruhn began, Title IX, and the work of ADs Jerry Davis and Wayne Vickery. A MAJOR influence and advocate always was Manson Hill. Today, girls have an array of sports in which to participate and enjoy. Girls receive athletic honors and scholarships. So, as we say goodbye to this building, I thank everyone who has created opportunities for girls to play. Onward Gainesville- One Gainesville! See more

Our mantra of Building on a Legacy takes on a new (and quite literal) meaning starting today. The memories and traditions housed here will never be torn down, only built upon, and built anew. #gobigred #buildingonalegacy
