Dear Oak Grove Island Parents, CSX Railroad will be closing the railroad crossing on Oak Grove Road on March 2, 2021 from 8AM until 8PM. While they are confide...nt that they will be able to complete the work during the 12-hour period, NO vehicles, including buses, will be able to cross the tracks during the closure. Bus routes on the morning of March 2 will run as normal with possible delays due to site preparation. However, afternoon bus routes will be affected. The Glynn County School System plan is to station a microbus on both sides of the tracks in order to transport students home. Sterling Elementary and Jane Macon Middle students will need to look for a microbus at their school's bus loop. It will have a magnet on the side of the bus that says "Oak Grove Island". Brunswick High students will ride their regular route (074) to be transferred to a microbus at Jane Macon Middle for the trip to Oak Grove Island. School personnel have been notified of the closure and will assist students in boarding the correct bus. Once students have boarded, the microbus will travel to the railroad track where law enforcement will assist students across the track on foot. They will be met on the other side of the railroad track by another microbus for the trip to their bus stop. Students whose parents or guardians decide to keep their student home from school that day will NOT be penalized for the absence. If your child will need afternoon transportation on March 2, please respond to this email or call the Transportation Office at 912-261-4120 ext.1257 by 3 p.m. Monday, March 1. This information will help us keep count of all students who will be present on the bus before we leave the school. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

STATEMENT FROM SUPERINTENDENT WOODS ON VACCINE PRIORITY FOR TEACHERS & SCHOOL STAFF: I am thrilled that, now that vaccine supply has increased, Georgia is ex...panding vaccine eligibility, meaning Georgia teachers and school staff are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine beginning March 8. This is an important step in ensuring all Georgia students have access to in-person instruction and ensuring the safety of students, staff, and families. It has been an incredibly challenging year for educators and families alike, but I believe we are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. As an educator, I am grateful for the hard work of the scientists who created and tested this vaccine. I appreciate Governor Kemp including teachers in the priority phases of vaccine administration and expanding eligibility as soon as healthcare workers, first responders, and seniors had the opportunity to be vaccinated.
