Y’all!! Check this out! My friend Kathryn recently launched her podcast which focuses on women in construction! We met in a Facebook group of other women and she reached out to me to be part of the podcast. I’m talking about our construction business as well as the renovation plans behind the Golden Building project. You’ll learn a lot about us on this episode

We got the call today that we had a broken display window on the building. No clue what transpired, but another downtown business also had busted windows which leads me to believe that this wasn’t an accident. So, when you see us boarding up the rest of the windows, don’t be alarmed we are just taking precaution. I’ve been bummed out this afternoon, not because we lost a window (jokes on them, we have to replace them anyhow), but because people are just mean with no care for things that others have put hard work into. While we don’t have a storefront just yet, I’m using this as an opportunity to encourage you to shop small this Christmas season. Events like this can be a discouragement and scare for other businesses, too. Be sure to let them know you support them and want to see them succeed!

As bad as I wish we could see the finished product of this lovely building, I never want to forget where we started. I was so excited to see the way finding signs downtown have been re-installed! While locals may seem to know where things are around town, visitors don’t. These signs foster a welcoming environment and let others know they are welcome in Downtown Tifton. Big thanks to our Downtown Development Authority.

A little rainy-day quarantine fun. I like to draw on my iPad in @procreate with my Apple Pencil. I decided I’d sketch out the Golden Building and now I can’t stop looking at it! What other historic landmarks would you like to see?

Here’s a look at one of the first few steps of the historic preservation process. My designer, Meredith, and architect, David, measured and sketched every nook and cranny of this three story building and basement. Walls, door openings, windows, and more have to be measured and floor plans must be rendered. Once the plans are rendered, they are to be submitted to state, federal, and local historic preservation committees to have documentation of the historic property as-built. Once this process is complete and approved, we will then submit our preliminary plans of what we would like to adjust on the property. I’ll fill you in on that process when the time comes.

At this present moment, we do not have plans for the basement that are set in stone. I really love this spot in the building because, though it be slightly creepy, it is so unique and full of character. The beams, the flow of light, the white painted diagonal tongue and groove ceilings. It’s been a barber shop, a few different named gyms, and even practice space for the Tift County wrestling team. I see potential for so many different opportunities here. - a fine dining resta...urant (number one on my list!) - a relaxing yoga studio (or even one with those cool yoga swings!) - coworking studio space for women creatives (modeled from The Reverie in Atlanta) Maybe there’s someone that’s been looking for something similar to this. Maybe it’s an open door for someone to follow a dream. Whatever happens here, I want it to feel RIGHT. I want the community to enjoy it. I want it to be somewhere to gather and flourish. What would you like to see?

Change my mind: exposed brick is everything.

This introduction is a bit overdue. We are the Turner’s! You’ve seen a little bit of myself, but you probably haven’t seen much of Justin and Judah. While The Golden Exchange project is more so my baby, I wouldn’t be able to do it without either of these guys! Justin and I have been married for 4 years. For some crazy reason, we thought it would be fun to start a business, graduate college, and get married all in the same year Shortly after, we found ou...t that Judah would be on his way to make our lives a little more entertaining! Justin is my biggest encourager and helper! Our qualities compliment one another, making us an unstoppable team I do more of the publicity, whereas he’s always contributing behind the scenes. Then there’s Judah, the driving force of everything that we do. His future is in our hands. We want to do the very best we can to equip him for this crazy world. God has blessed us with a drive and dream. We want to serve one another as well as serve those around us. We can’t wait to carry out this dream, too! I think it’s SAFE to say this historic showpiece isn’t going anywhere!

The day you plant the seed is not the day you eat the fruit. Sometimes that’s hard to remember when we are so anxiously waiting for the next thing to happen. Let us not forget the process of planting, watering, nurturing, external conditions, and fertilizing a plant must partake in before we are able to see the fruit that it bears. In this project, we have just planted the seed. Now, we water. We nurture. We wait. There is an extensive process that can’t always be seen before the beauty of the fruit.

This view is peering down the elevator shaft from the third floor Our goal is to make this into a passenger elevator so that everyone can experience this historical showpiece!

So tell me, what are 3 things you LOVE about Tifton?

Same photo, different edits. I wanted to share with you two cool things happening here. In photo 1, you can see that the plaster is being easily removed from the walls. Hopefully this will be the case for the entire third floor! Sometimes these old plaster walls can eat away some of the brick when being removed, but this is seeming to come off pretty easily! No renovations happening yet, just a little bit of playing around today. In photo 2, check out that view! I love that... the third floor gives an awesome view of the rooftops of Tifton. This is part of what makes this such a special place for events. What do you think??

If I could have the perfect office space, it would be this one. There’s just the right amount of natural light which highlights the details of this 100+ year old wood. Right now it’s quiet. I stop and wonder who will occupy this space. A creator? A lawyer? An agent? A salesman? Are they reading this now? How will I be able to learn from them? How can I make their life & job easier? Many people have asked, what made you want to do this? and why did you choose this location? To properly answer those questions, let’s take a walk down memory lane.

I used to say people don’t take you seriously until you're 25 years old. Now, I’m 25 and I’m starting to question that. Have you faced trials in your line of work because of your age? I’m curious if this is a topic that others would like to hear about from my perspective!

Friday... I can see the light! This has been a wonderful week announcing our purchase and plans for The Golden Exchange. We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the excitement and support of this dream. I can’t wait to share this journey with you!
