Mrs. Carr’s SHS Animal Science students experienced a day on a dairy farm during lab today. Students had to use an esophageal tuber for a weak calf, conducted a California Mastitis Test to determine the Somatic Cell Count in fresh cow milk, used obstetrical chains to show the proper way to pull a calf, and illustrated the proper steps in milking a cow to ensure a safe product for consumers. Thank you to GC Farm Bureau, our local farmers and GCYF members for supplying the various equipment needed and our SHS Healthcare teachers for providing our ‘calves’.

Vidalia onions are making their way up to Gordon County.
