The real reasons lumber is so high... 1. Import tariffs started the rise. 2. Covid hit and plants shut down. That messed up the supply vs demand. 3. Government started handing out checks while fear mongering folks into believing if they left their homes they would die. 4. People realized they could get checks from the government and choose to stay home instead of work.... 5. Lumber started to drop in early winter as winter building slowdown in the north helped a little with demand but then the ice storm hit Texas where one of the biggest manufacturers for the glue and resin required to manufacture plywood and OSB board in the country. This caused a shortage for the glue and another shortage issue. 6. Winter was milder up north than anticipated so starts didnt slow down as much as expected. 7. Interest rates are lower than ever so the demand is at an all time high, I believe because since the crash in 07 Americans have been saving more than ever and have paid off a lot of debt because they dont want to be caught in the same situation as they were in the crash. Therefore more money to spend now. Just my opinion. See more
