It’s a day to remember moms, but it’s also Little Richard Memorial Day, hosted by The Little Richard House Resource Center. The Grand, along with a host of downtown restaurants and businesses, celebrated by bringing back our Little Richard marquee that we first put up a year ago upon the news of his passing. On the right is Tedra Huston, Grand board member, talking at the Memorial event at Rosa Parks Square about how you can support The Little Richard House. Check out their page!

The stories of Storytellers Macon: Live at The Grand Opera House for "Kings and Queens" involve histories that often remain hidden, whether it's because of gender, race, or sexuality. A master at uncovering the hidden is Charvis Harrell. Hear what he has to say on November 7th. Tickets at https://bit.ly/3oASeNE Charvis Harrell is a Macon native who dedicated his purpose to art after being diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder. In 2019, Harrell was featured in the State of th...e Union National Juried Exhibition. His last show at McEachern Art Center, Cartoon Violence: Elegy and Testimony, aimed to show how the imagery used to describe Africans in America and their descendants has had a long, cruel history. Charvis likes his art to be like country music: raw, stripped down, and speaking to what you’re going through. Through art, Harrell seeks to shine light upon the unsightly realities that people live with. Refusing to revolt, he continues his journey to examine the darkness. Most recently, Charvis was profiled by Voyage ATL: http://voyageatl.com/int/meet-charvis-harrell-college-park/

Immense thanks to Macon Civic Club for their decades of support of The Grand and so many other organizations in the community. The challenges we face would be so much greater without the support of groups like them.

The days get shorter, the spiders make their webs, and you're making your plans for Broadway Does Halloween: A Cabaret - On Our Outdoor Stage! on Saturday. Check out our favorite musical theatre super-couple in Macon, Lizamar and Patrick (they even have the last name Hamilton...). They had their baby shower right here at The Grand, and they'll be singing some songs about priests, dentists, creeps, and gangsters this weekend! Lizamar Nieves (Hamilton) graduated from Mercer Uni...versity with a degree in Music Education in 2014. She currently teaches Spanish at Mary Persons High School and became a first-time parent this past March. Her favorite roles include Amy from "Company" at Theatre Macon, Lucy from "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" at Macon Little Theatre, and Mrs. Lovett in "Sweeney Todd" at Macon Little Theatre. She would like to thank her husband, family, and friends for all their support. She looks forward to singing again and is excited to be performing alongside her husband, Patrick.
