Valid Georgia Driver’s License High School Diploma or the equivalent This position participates in the work of an assigned fire company in responding to emergency and non- emergency calls. Guidelines include department standard operating procedures, city ordinances, NFPA recommended standards, local, state and federal laws. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application. The work consists of related emergency response, fire suppression and fire prevention duties. Respond to fire, medical and other emergency calls for service. Perform activities to suppress and extinguish fires. Extricate individuals from dangerous and hazardous situations. Assess emergency medical needs and provide treatment. Clean and maintain fire station buildings, grounds, apparatus and equipment. Attend and participate in company drills and training. Participate in physical fitness training. Perform hose and pump tests. Test fire hydrants. Maintain knowledge of city streets and geography. Perform related duties. The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching or walking. Frequently lifts light and heavy objects and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity. The work is typically performed in an office and at emergency and fire scenes. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc. Minimum age to apply is 18 years of age. Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level associated with the completion of high school or the equivalent. No experience requirements. Possession of a valid Georgia Driver’s License. Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the National Fire Protection Association and the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Act. Knowledge of computers and job related software programs. Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions. Skill in the preparation of clear and precise administrative reports. Skill in oral and written communication.
