Happy International Women’s Day, Panthers! Today, we’re recognizing Computer Scientist Thelma Estrin, an early advocate and pioneer for using computers in medical research. I was the first woman engineer I ever knew. Thelma was the first woman elected to the board of IEEE and helped build Israel’s first supercomputer. Additionally, she fought for the rights of women in leadership positions and their roles in engineering. She published multiple papers, as well as creating a series of workshops on bringing women into the sciences. Today, we honor Thelma for the work she did in the computer science industry and the progress she made for women in the field. Comment below women that inspire you!

Frances Allen was a pioneer in the computer science industry. She paved the way for faster, more efficient software programming, as well as making a space for women to be part of the industry. The first female fellow at IBM and a recipient of the A.M. Turning Award, often called the Nobel Prize of computer science, she was an inspiration to female computer scientists everywhere. Today, we honor Frances in her death, for all the great work she did in the industry. Read more about Frances Allen's life using the link below.
