Every year, the GSUPD H.O.P.E Team reaches out to let families know we are here to assist in any way possible. It's always heartwarming to see the smiles on the children's faces just by our interactions. The holiday season is near and, unfortunately, thieves are too. Theft and robbery typically increase toward the end of the year. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when out and about. - Be aware of your surroundings. Some thieves use distraction as a way to steal.... - Don't lend your phone to a stranger. - Never ask a stranger to hold something for you or help you with your belongings. - Use the buddy system. - Travel and park in well-lit areas. - Carry small amounts of cash. - Leave your social security card at home to prevent identity theft. - Carry keys and ID in your pocket, separate from your purse or wallet. If your purse or wallet is stolen, the thief will not have your address or access to your car or home. - Carry your wallet in a front pocket. - Carry your backpack or purse across the front of your body and during cooler weather, carry your bag under your coat. Your life is more valuable than the property itself. Try not to fight over the property. Get a good description of the suspect(s), possible vehicle, and the direction the suspect(s) traveled. Immediately notify the police. If you are a victim of a #Robbery on-campus contact #GSUPD 404-413-3333 or dial 911. #GSUSafety #PreventTheft #Theft #SnatchTheft
