PRESS RELEASE - VISITOR PARKING & INTERNET April 13, 2016 On behalf of Georgia Tech eSports and the Gamefest Planning Committee, we would like to thank you for attending Gamefest Spring 2016. Gamefest is run by students for students in cooperation with various campus departments. Unfortunately, there were two additional fees that some attendees incurred during the event. We sincerely apologize to those who were inconvenienced by these fees. We would like to clarify what h...appened and how we plan on resolving it in the future. Firstly, attendees without Georgia Tech parking permits were expected to pay the standard visitor parking rate of roughly $15.00 per day. All of the parking on campus, including the parking deck beneath our building, is managed by Georgia Tech Parking & Transportation Services. All of the parking revenue from Gamefest goes directly to this department. Because we were unable to make any arrangements with this department, only Georgia Tech parking permit holders were able to park for free for our event. This is because some parking areas on campus are free to permit holders on weekends. Even Gamefest directors and volunteers had to pay for parking if they did not have a permit. Nobody was reimbursed by our organization for parking. In the future, we hope to make formal arrangements with this department so that all attendees can either park for our event at a reduced rate or for free (to attendees) in the parking deck beneath our building. Secondly, attendees who were not Georgia Tech students or staff were expected to pay the standard visitor Internet rate of roughly $3.00 per day. All of the Internet on campus, including the network we deployed in the atrium, is managed by the Georgia Tech Office of Information Technology. All of the visitor Internet revenue from Gamefest goes directly to this department. In previous semesters, we were able to make formal arrangements with this department to provide visitors with guest accounts for accessing the Internet during our event at no additional cost to attendees. However, we were unable to make formal arrangements with this department for this event. In the future, we hope to resolve this so that all visitors can access the Internet for free. Although we hope to resolve these issues for future events, it largely depends on whether or not we can reach agreements with these departments. In the future, any additional fees that may be incurred at our event will be disclosed on our website when tickets go on sale.
