Don't forget about the upcoming Hills Mill Lab Day at Fort Daniel (2505 Braselton Hwy, Buford) that will be TOMORROW Saturday, February 20 from 1-3pm. Due to limited space in the archaeology lab and the need to social distance, we will be working outside. Luckily, the weather tomorrow will be sunny but cool, so dress warmly.

New South has purchased Abby the Archaeobus from the Society for Georgia Archaeology. Abby has lived on our campus for a number of years, and while no longer ro...ad worthy, it can continue to be used for education and outreach to school age children. Abby is also an artifact of the social outreach in archaeology and is one of the most noted, award winning archaeology outreach vehicles ever created. Abby will continue to serve as a static museum when conditions improve, and social interaction is permitted again. In the mean time, Abby will keep her prime parking spot on our campus, and we are glad to be her permanent home. Dr Stefan Brannan, SGA President, is shown handing the title to New South’s President Mary Beth Reed. See more

The latest Gwinnett Archaeology Bulletin (GAB) is out! This issue is somewhat a special one: the Hill's Mill site, which FDF/GARS members Wayne and Eli Stancel's ancestor owned. The GAB has several articles that cover the historical background of Hill's Mill, the archaeological investigation, and an explanation on what type of mill Hill's Mill is. Along with these there are articles about the Veterans Curation Program and the archaeological work at God's Acre Cemetery in north Georgia. (Link: https://bit.ly/GABJunJulAug2020)

The final week of Archaeology Month 2020 is upon us! We will be releasing three new exhibits for you to enjoy on Thursday May 28th. Visit our home page at http:...//portaltothepast.newsouthassoc.com/ to learn about zooarchaeology and ethnobotany through the Subsistence Studies exhibit, participate in a video tour of Abby the Archaeobus, and investigate the many reasons why archaeology matters through our Stewardship and Preservation exhibit. Don’t forget to fill out our short poll on the Abby the Archaeobus exhibit page to tell us about your experience with the Society for Georgia Archaeology’s traveling archaeology education program and things you’d like to see in the future. The Stewardship and Preservation exhibit will feature a map of local sites that you can visit to continue your journey with the #protectorsofthepast! We encourage you to enjoy local cultural resources and to get involved with local organizations so you can help to preserve them for future generations. #archaeology #history #funhistory #historical #newsouth #preservation #historic #historian #archaeologist #kids #education #educational #historylover #historyfan #kidsprojects #flintknapping #stonetools #pottery #nativeamerican #cultural #cultures #georgia #publicoutreach #hunting #spears #ancenttools #hunitngtools #educationalvideo #video #howitismade #archaeologyday #archaeologymonth #learnsomethingnew #baskets #basketweaving #basketmaking #cemetery #cemeterystudies #archaeobus #abbey
