Students, Faculty, and Staff of the past and present - Many of you may remember a prior graduate of ours, Darin "Dex" Poindexter. We are sorry to say that Dex passed away Monday, March 22, 2021. For those that didn't know Dex, I'd like to take a minute to tell everyone my thoughts.... Dex was a huge fella - meaning he'd walk into a doorway and was roughly the size of the doorframe. He looked like he could have played as an NFL linebacker or defensive end at some point in his life. Of course, when you meet someone that size you can't help but ask what sport he played...and while he didn't play in the NFL (he did play sports overseas, if memory serves), he was obviously athletic. After you grasped his size, you saw a bright smile. He had a great one - one of those light-up-the-room kind. Then you get to know his personality and he was just an all-around good person. In speaking with instructors over the years, they all enjoyed having Dex as one of their students for these reasons as well as for the fact that he was a hard-worker too. Everyone always spoke highly of the man and praised his name whenever he came up in conversation. I'd almost guarantee that anyone who knew him is nodding along in agreement. He was a heckuva guy, and I can speak for my staff and faculty when I say the world just lost a good one. Friends and loved ones of Dex - our hearts and prayers are with you. Rain, rain, go away. Come again another day. Some food for thought...the parking lot behind the school (not going towards LA but back towards the fence) is roughly 1.33 acres. In 2020, aka The Year of No Sunshine, we have so far received approximately 17" of rain. 17"! 1" of rain on an acre is approximately 27,000 gallons of water. This means our little square of parking lot has had 600,000 GALLONS OF RAIN since January 1.... I'm not sure who made karma angry here, but if it's you, please make things right. Massage Therapists (professionals) - As you probably know, this is the year for renewing your Georgia Massage Therapy license. We wanted to make you aware of a couple of items; 1. CEUs, - These requirements have not changed. A list of CEUs offered at Gwinnett College (Sandy Springs and Lilburn locations) can be viewed at; https://www.gwinnettcollege.edu/continuing/massage-therapy/... 2. CEUs, Georgia requirements. There are two websites to visit to determine if your CEUs can be accepted by the Georgia Board. https://sos.ga.gov//continuing_education_courses_not_accep AND Page 11 of 26 - https://sos.ga.gov//50%20Reference%20-%20Massage%20Therapy 3. New licensure requirements - There is one major difference this year on the renewal application, and that is due to the Georgia law update from July 2019. All massage therapists will be required to submit proof of professional liability insurance. According to the new application, "Applicants must submit proof of liability insurance coverage for bodily injury, property damage, and professional liability in coverages and amounts of not less than $1 million per occurrence, with not less than a minimum annual aggregate of $3 million for all occurrences. A license will not be issued if this is not received."

All - If you recall, this summer our national accrediting body, ACCSC, visited us to review how good of a job we are doing by completing a process called reaccreditation. If the school does a great job, the school can earn up to a maximum five years of reaccreditation with no reporting or other stipulations.... Today I received official word that GC-SS did just that - earned the max five years with no additional requirements! If you’re a student, give a faculty or staff member a high five. If you’re faculty/staff, give a student a high five. This is a huge deal, and we are totally excited about it! -TD
