The first Saturday in April is known as Every Day is Tag Day! To help prevent heartache when your pet has become lost, consider getting your pet Microchipped! Microchipping takes just a moment and will help to bring your pet back to you quickly. Each year millions of pets across the United States become lost and are brought to nearby shelters. Sadly, only 15% of dogs and 2% of cats in shelters WITHOUT ID tags or Microchips are reunited with their owners. When a lost pet is ...brought into our clinic, we scan them for a microchip. The information provided is the information we use to contact the worried parents of the lost fur-baby, and we have had many happy reunions! To ensure your pets have a chance to get back to you quickly, we recommend: - Microchip your pets. Even though you may have indoor pets, it is always a good idea to get them microchipped, and have an ID tag. Many strays in the shelters are indoor pets who escaped, or accidentally got out and became lost. - Make sure your pet wears a collar with updated tags. - Include at least a contact name and phone number on your pet’s ID tags. - Keep the information on your pet’s ID tags, licenses and microchip current. If you have moved or changed your phone number, ensure this information is updated to aid in getting your pet back to you quickly. If there is an old phone number or address, chances are we will not be able to reunite you with your lost fur-baby. - When moving or traveling, place a temporary tag on your pet with the phone number of someone who can contact you or your updated phone number, in case your pet gets away from you while traveling. - If your pet needs important medication, such as insulin or heart meds, it is important to list this information on your pet’s ID tags and in the Microchip data system. If we all work together, we can microchip our pets and help to make it possible to reunite pets with their loving owners, if they become lost. Microchips can be done at any appointment or with any procedure. If you have any questions, or to set up your pet’s microchip appointment, please call us at 229-794-0040. #HahiraVeterinaryClinic #EveryDayIsTagDay #PetIDTags #MicrochipYourPets #HealthyPet #PetHealth
