Smokey Humble Brag- Over a year and a half ago a client/friend came to me to transition from color to her natural gray. I did everything I knew to do, and after many failed attempts we got her a nice blonde to help her grow into her natural gray, gracefully (which she has totally rocked I might add and we’ve almost achieved our goal of fully natural). Fast forward- over the last year I’ve made it my mission to find a gray formula that won’t fade in one washes time, rather... it be for a fun, fashion gray, or a transitional color. I’ve mixed, I’ve measured, I’ve brand hopped, I’ve watched the top pros, done the research, and just couldn’t get it quite right. And then what did I do? Gave up, naturally. Chalked it up as not being good enough. There are many pros to working alone which is why I ultimately decided to come home to work, but the biggest con is not having people to brainstorm with, bounce formulas off of, or heck, just remind you that you don’t suck at your job. When this sweet client came to me a few months back she had a bob that had years of a dark box color. So we began our goal of becoming blonde. And we worked hard at it. It went through the orange phase, the awkward phase, the almost there but not quite phase, and eventually the blonde phase. When she came to me recently and said she wanted to go charcoal, ashy, gray I literally died a little inside, but I pulled out some old formula ideas, brainstormed, and voila! This was today’s result. I seriously almost cried. I’m not the best, I’m not the fanciest, but I promise I’ll work hard to make you happy. I’ll work hard to not compromise the health of your hair, I’ll work hard to be honest to you, I’ll work hard to give you what you want, and I’ll work hard to make you feel like the amazing woman you are!!! This gray isn’t going to go on the Redken symposium stage by any means, but it was a feat, and I’m proud of it! (Ps- this photo is untouched, and unfiltered.
