What do we grow in the fall and winter? (the answer may surprise you) We are growing some fall veggies, but our main focus over the colder months is to continue to grow the health of our soil. This is the time of year that we test our soil, and then work on adding organic amendments to improve the overall health of our soil. A large part of our property is covered in forest, so we shred the leaves this time of year and add them to our garden beds. We also add compost and na...tural fertilizers to feed the soil. We also grow cover crops to protect and improve the soil quality. Improving soil and growing cover crops is good for our planet. This practice pulls carbon out of the atmosphere and puts it back in the soil where plants can use it. This means cleaner air for us to breathe and more nutrients for our plants. So, there you have it. We focus on growing soil over the winter so we will have healthier and better tasting veggies for you next year, and we even help the planet in the process.
