Good News, Bad News? The Harrisburg Community Garden will be relocating to the site of the Veterans Peace Park on the corner of Jenkins and Tuttle Sts. The land upon which HCG was launched loved and cared for by many in our community was SOLD. Since 2008 we extended space and respite to our community and so we are sad to be moving although not too far away. THANK YOU to Phil Williams, his son Phil, Jessica Kogel, Charles Caruso and Boys Scout Troop 245, Kim Hines, Patricia M...orris, Pam Ekstrom, our interfaith partners at First Assembly of God Church for donating funding for water at The Garden, Unitarian Universalist Church of Augusta including Greg Sutherland, Joe Z. and Jezibel Anat, (street preacher) Sister Rose and to members of the Islamic Center of Augusta who donated artwork and fig trees especially Bayyinah. HUGE THANKS to all who offered assistance to us over the years. If you know folks who would like to garden in a small bed 4 x 4 ft. please send them our way. We would especially like to attract women Veterans and others who want to grow food exchange information and learn more about gardening and one another. We hope to include a compost site, medicinal plants, flowers, veggies and fruits. You are welcome to utilize the Veterans Peace Park as a space to read or meditate. We now have a tutor for Chemistry and Spanish in the neighborhood if the need arises. Suggestions were made to consider the application Simply Safe and affordable home security system and to place lights all around your property for maximal protection. It was great to finally meet Porter Fleming grant winners local artists Wes Stewart and Colleen Byer who will be helping create murals here in Harrisburg. We enjoyed getting a glimpse at their art renderings and they are inviting us to let them know about natural symbols in Nature that we might want them to incorporate into this project ie wildflowers.
