Thumper the leprechaun bunny wishes everyone a Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Give children some modeling clay, toothpicks, and pipe cleaners, and watch what they do with them!
One of our favorite science activities is "the science of paper airplanes" with "Mr. John". John teaches them about airplanes and flight and helps them build paper airplanes and decorate them. Then the fun begins, testing them out on the playground!
Rainy Day fun! During our first Spring Break Camp day, we spent the morning playing with the animals and the big cardboard blocks.
A fun way to eat healthy fruit and cheese: "snacks on a handle"! (Pretzel sticks)
We have had such a fun Thanksgiving Camp this week! Thanks to all the families who continue to support Haverty Hollow for child care. We got creative with food for two snacks, making "turkey crackers" with graham crackers and vanilla wafers, and "turkey cookies" on another day. Which do you think the kids liked best? I am so thankful to be able to spend time with these great kids!!
Why choose Haverty Hollow for your child's outdoor fun? The AJC published an article on October 17 titled "Playgrounds are essential escape for kids". The article states that "Running, jumping, and climbing are a big part of being a kid- and for parents, it's probably better for all that activity to happen on a playground, rather than the living room furniture." "Outdoor activities are generally considered to be safer than indoor ones, and surface transmission is 'not thought to be the main way the virus spreads', according to the CDC." Treat your kids to an afternoon at Haverty Hollow, playing on the playground and doing fun outside activities!
Today's activity was a group effort of turning a pumpkin into a jack-o-lantern! The kids designed the facial features and helped clean out the pumpkin and "Mr. John" did the carving.
This group got "Frank" all ready to greet people coming down the driveway to Haverty Hollow. Halloween is coming!!
When the hurricane came through Atlanta, Nancy Creek flooded into our pool. When Troy was cleaning out the pool he found a fish! (Kinda hard to see, but it is there!) Mr. John and his nature group took the fish back to the creek and released it. Good deed for the day!
Kids had fun getting creative with the science of "Bubbles" on our deck!
A LEGEND from the early years of Haverty Hollow, Elliott Pope, came by for a little visit today with his 3-year-old son, Zeke. Thought some of you "old timers" out there would enjoy seeing this! I would love to hear from anyone with "Elliott memories"!
How many kids have learned to make paper airplanes from "Mr. John"? It never gets old!
Meet our new chinchilla, "Dusk"! We adopted Dusk from Ms. Baker, an art teacher at Westminster, who had Dusk and her sister, Dawn, in her art room but was told they could not come back after this past summer. Of course, we are delighted to have a chinchilla again on our nature porch!
On Friday we wanted to explore Haverty Hollow to see what the flood on Thursday left behind. The kids wore "bag boots" to protect the shoes from all the mud. We found a huge fallen tree in the woods, blocking many paths, and LOTS of sand!
The kids would love to go out on our new lake, if anyone has any canoes they can bring over!
The Playground Sand Restaurant is now open. May I take your order please?
Looking at this topsy turvy world we live in from upside down on the monkey bars! Inviting our young friends out there to join us in the afternoons for outside play, outside fun activities, and being with friends!
Butterfly friend at the pool
We did it! Thirteen weeks of Frog Hollow Camp with no issues related to COVID19!! I am very grateful to all of the campers and families and the great staff that helped me provide a fun but safe place where kids could be kids in the summer of 2020!!
We can do our science projects outside on our deck. This project combines art, science, and math as the campers design 3-dimensional shapes using toothpicks and marshmallows.
Hanging out playing Uno in our carpentry area! Frog Hollow is excited to offer a 6th session from August 10 - 21, for those campers who don't start school until August 24. Limited spaces available!! Call for details!
