Cooler weather is knocking at our door, and we need your help in keeping our clothes closet "weather proof." Our clothes offerings help so many stay warm and dry. To that end, we need coats and sweaters, mostly for men. And, we need men's XL t-shirts, pullovers, and jeans (34W and above). Plus, we need men's tennis shoes, size 9 and higher. Finally, blankets, blankets, blankets!! Message us if you can help, and we will come pick up your donation!
Our volunteers are what make all we do possible, and they are the very best. One of the best of our best is Abigail Minnaugh, a senior at Johns Creek High School. She is wonderful with our kids, and we cherish all she does for them and us. "I love getting to form connections with the kids and adults who seek community at the center. Hearing people’s stories, and interacting with the kids has opened my eyes to the impact of poverty on their lives, and how much of an impact we are making on them by simply showing up. The need in the community is overwhelming and I love being able to help in any way I can."
The election is not 15 days away. It is going on now at early voting locations all over Fulton County!!! Get out and vote before November 3 by voting early. If you need a ride to an early voting location, let us know. Or, we will be taking people to the polls this Saturday, from 10-12. Early voting ends on October 30. Make your voice heard!!! https://www.fultoncountyga.gov//vot/early-voting-locations
We held two voter registration days at the Center, along with our partners, Hope thru Soap and New Georgia Project. We registered dozens of voters and gave away goodies from another partner, Soul Supplies. Now, it is on to early voting!!
From slavery to segregation, African Americans have been systematically denied equal rights and opportunities. The effects of long-standing discrimination linger and perpetuate disparities in poverty, housing, criminal justice, and health care, among other areas. These disparities, in turn, can contribute to more African Americans experiencing homelessness.
Atlanta's homeless population is over 87% African American, and the city's African American population is just over 52%. We have a serious racial inequality problem that impacts homelessness. See some of the reasons in this article. And, join us on Saturdays at 10:00 a.m. to serve our friends, many of whom live outside: https://endhomelessness.org//what-causes-homel/inequality/
