Woman: You don't have to do everything, you don't have to be a super mom, a super housewife, a super professional, a super woman... Because when your body clai...ms you, there will be few who will remember you tried to be all in one! So get out of the house, travel, walk out, go to the park, go to a gym, eat what provokes you, fix yourself, sleep later, put on clothes you like, be yourself, take care of yourself, love yourself, and do it !! Exclusively for you! Children grow up and leave, husband doesn't always stay, work easily replace you, house will get dirty again, but your emotional health is also worth and you may not get a second chance. #DidYouKnow most research (in this case, personal care products, cosmetics, etc.) does NOT take into account how the science behind chemicals affects women, pregnant women, developing fetuses, children, people of color, and other immune-challenged folks? So unless you’re a 30-year-old white male, you will be negatively affected by most clean & scientifically backed products that line the shelves. Does this come as a surprise to you? Shocked? Appalled? Honestly, I’m all of... those things, and the saddest part is that there’s only a page-and-a-half that was written in 1938 into law that supports this $7B personal care industry. The cool part about it that we do have the power to put our money where our mouth is, and I do it by partnering with B-Corp like Beautycounter because they care about the science and how it affects the people and planet altogether. Drop a springtime emoji below in the comments.

I am a huge mental health advocate, especially when it comes to maternal mental health. It affects a staggering amount of birthing parents. As a matter of fact, Dr. Kristy Christopher-Holloway talks about how 1 in 7 birthing people will experience a perinatal mood and anxiety disorder (PMAD). Furthermore, women of color often have various intersections that further complicate their experiences with PMADs. Left untreated, PMADs can impact interpersonal relationships, mother-b...aby attachment, finances, and lead to or exacerbate substance use. I started mental health counseling 6 weeks postpartum, when I turned to my friend and therapist Kadesha Adelakun for a recommendation. I was suffering with postpartum depression (PPD), PP anxiety, and PTSD, while also taking care of a pre-term, premature baby fresh out of NICU. To say I was struggling is putting it mildly. I needed HELP and Dr. Holloway at New Vision Counseling Center, LLC did exactly that. And now 3.5+ years later, I’m so grateful that I did that for me and my family, even when I was bringing my little nursing with me to sessions. I understand that I stand in a place of privilege being able to seek counseling from an access and financial point-of-view. I know that this isn’t the case for everyone, especially women of color, whose risk for maternal reproductive and mental health are at a much higher risk in state of Georgia and across the country. There are resources available, so if you’re reading this and you need the help, please don’t hesitate. I will answer my messages and get you connected, no judgement, no questions. #perinatalmentalhealth #maternalmentalhealth

Did you get your voice heard?! I voted early with my toddler who was elated that he voted! I voted... As a woman who should have autonomy over her body As a mother to brown boys... As a wife to a biracial husband As a daughter whose parents have pre-existing health conditions As an aunt to boys & girls whose future should be bright As an immigrant who escaped political, religious, & cultural persecution As a friend who loves & protects all marginalized people, regardless of color, religion, sexual orientation, or ethnic background As a citizen who is worried about her environment that we’re leaving our children As a PERSON who chooses LOVE over hate! Please vote for those who cannot. Be a voice for the voiceless. Silence is not an option!

Women are changed on the most fundamental level, their brain, during pregnancy. Why doesn’t the prenatal care, and general needs of motherhood, support that process?!

This big kid in the middle is 18 today Yes, Jake is of adult age and I’m beside myself! It’s hard to believe that 14+ years ago I actually became a parent. Trust me, I didn’t feel that right away. I didn’t think I earned that right. I started dating a man with a child, and I knew what a huge privilege and responsibility that was. And knowing those two peas in a pod was to love them both immediately. I was smitten with that kid from the start and he had me wrapped around his... tiny little finger in no time. The first time he called me Mom, I ignored him, actually for months. I didn’t want to make it confusing for him or make him feel any pressure or obligation to me. I was so torn about it. But it was always on his terms. And it only grew my heart even larger. This young man, from my little boy, is so much more grown, and interesting, smart, kind, and loving. I feel so blessed to have been able to stand by his side this whole time, holding his hand, and his Dad’s as we navigated childhood. I love you, big kid! You are an amazing person, son, and brother! And we’re so proud of you! Photo credit: Northern Light Photography

Still one of my favorite memories of an epic day It’s amazing how 5 years just flew by in what seems to be a blink of an eye! It’s a rollercoaster ride to go through life, but having your best friend by your side makes it much more manageable. Our days and hearts are full, our hands even more so. But there’s no one else I would want to do this with. I love you so much! October is Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month. The reason for it is that 1 in 4 parents experience this devastating loss, yet these parents deal with the stigma and silence surrounding it. So let’s illuminate these parents and support them during their journey. They don’t have to walk alone. Read my dear friend Jess’ words as she’s journeyed and come out a warrior mama! Follow her honest motherhood insight at @countercurrentmama. You look like a wa...rrior. I feel like one I did. And I do. My journey through motherhood has left me with battle wounds. I’ve got the literal and figurative scars to prove it. October is when I lost my babies... on my birthday... two years in a row. October is #miscarriageandinfantlossawareness month. If you have or are experiencing loss, you are not alone. Its a club SO many of us belong to against our every breath and hope and prayer. May we all find the strength to lift each other up by sharing our stories. If that’s not where you are right now, if it still hurts too much to even think about, know that you are not alone and we will fight until you are strong enough to join us. That’s what warriors do. . . Today is 125th anniversary of first modern chiropractic adjustment performed by D.D. Palmer on Harvey Lillard. What a momentous occasion! To celebrate chiropractic’s birthday, I have had the pleasure to adjust a 6-day old, 6-month old, several 3- and 6-year olds, 26- and 36-years olds, 60+ year olds, and plenty of those of ages somewhere in between. Chiropractic is for people who want to cultivate their body’s ability to heal itself inside out and we are here to support that healing process. One of my favorite things as a chiropractor (and even before I became a chiropractor as a chiropractic assistant) was to see all the smiling faces when they walked in and out of the door. Today, I witnessed exactly that with my practice members, and my heart is so full! Thank you to all of you who trust me with your and your families’ health!
