That’s our Miller in the back, from the Carroll County hoarding case, that we sent to our partners at MHS along with many others. I don’t think this boy ever had a life like a dog deserves or was able to do the thing real dogs do. Dogs are created so incredibly cool like that though, living in the moment and continuing to find ways to accept us flawed humans. Maureen, the shelter director at MHS sent us this photo a few minutes ago, along with a video that i will try to s...hare in the next post....but it all just about had me teary eyed. Some of you may know that day I went by the shelter to see all those 20+ dogs from the hoarding case my heart broke. I’m not emotional, I am a thinker and a doer but I didn’t think we could take that many. We did it though and it was HARD, but THIS is why. Look at that good boy. I hope he forgets every second of his previous life! And I want ALL of you that do things to help us continue doing this work, to give yourselves a pat on the back! This Is The Reason You all know I love the piebalds, so when I was alerted to this boy at a local shelter, I sent an inquiry and agreed to take him. When Thatch came to #huskyhouse, he was a wreck. His coat looked awful, he was severely malnourished, he had explosive, watery diarrhea, he drank excessively, and he peed everywhere...ALL the time. After a conversation with a fellow, local husky rescuer (who has what is likely a relative of Thatch), she said there is a backya...rd husky breeder in the area and that her female was also a health train wreck when she pulled her. After several weeks of monitoring symptoms, bloodwork, urinalysis, urine concentration testing, etc., Dr. Emily diagnosed Thatch with diabetes insipidus, a condition caused by the lack of ability of Thatch’s pituitary gland to produce a specific hormone needed for adequate and efficient fluid reabsorbtion. Because of this, he was essentially dehydrating himself and would have, without a diagnosis and treatment, surely died. Fast forward nine months. With a diagnosis and treatment plan, Thatch is now at a normal weight, his coat looks good, and his symptoms are controlled. He is happy and playful and is as a young husky should be. So, when our yearly, online auction begins tomorrow, think about dogs like Thatch. Know that as you are bidding on these items, you are helping dogs like him, dogs who would likely be long gone if it weren’t for this rescue and all those who help to support it. We simply cannot do it without you, and THIS is the reason why we keep choosing to do it, day after day, every day. Dogs like Thatch deserve it, plain and simple.~Brandy
