The Loest Research Library (housed in the Museum) was also closed until further notice. We hope to resume regular hours of Museum opening in 2021, but we do not have a date for that reopening at this time. Historic Effingham Society (HES) The HES 2021 Calendars are still available, and are still a bargain at $5 ($7 mailed to you). Our 20121 Calendar features old photographs ... from Clyo, Guyton, Rincon, Springfield, Stillwell and other places around our county. The cover photo features a structure which began as a car dealership in the 1920s; today it houses an event space, The Local on Laurel, winner of the HES Preservation Award. _____ As of 2020, our Christmas ornaments will be made right here in Effingham County! The next one will be available in mid-November. _____ Our office staff is at the Old Jail Museum weekly: Monday from 9 to 11 AM, and Tuesday through Thursday from 9 AM to 1 PM. Those openings allow us to continue business, and make sales from the gift shop. TOURS, however, must be by APPOINTMENT ONLY, so that we can draw on additional staff for that visit. Georgia Salzburger Monument Dedication 1994 Loest Research Library Archive On Monday, the 5th of September 1994 (Labor Day), ... as part of the annual celebration of Salzburger Heritage Day, the Georgia Salzburger Society and a delegation of members of the Austrian government held a dedication ceremony in Savannah, Georgia. This service dedicated the Salzburger Monument of Reconciliation in the city of Savannah from the government of Austria. See more

The area had been St. Matthews Parish since 1758 and Colonial Georgia since 1733. Our Society was founded in 1986.

. - . On Saturday, the 14th of March, 2020, the Georgia Salzburger Society (GSS) celebrates the 286th Anniversary of Landing Day, and all are welcome. The festivities this year begin in Ebenezer at 11:30 AM with Greet and Reminisce in the Old Parsonage,... noon Good Rice Soup lunch ($5) in the Old Parsonage followed at 2 PM with the annual Landing Day meeting of the Society in Jerusalem Lutheran Church, 3 PM Reception in the Old Parsonage, and 3:30 PM caravan for Bethany Cemetery tour. Note: The Museum will be open ONLY from 1-2 PM; the Loest Research Library will be closed.
