Meet Leanne! "In January of her last year in the Clarke County School System, Leanne began transitioning into Hope Haven’s Day Program by spending a portion of the school day at Hope Haven. When the school year ended, Leanne was ready for Hope Haven full-time. That was 2001. Hope Haven is the reason Leanne has continued her development in such important areas as speech, fine motor, and daily living skills. Are you ever asked or wonder yourself "What is Hope Haven?" Well, that's a great question and we are glad to answer! Hope Haven is a nonprofit organization that provides services to individuals with developmental disabilities who reside in Athens-Clarke and surrounding counties. Throughout April, we will be spotlighting several of our participants and the stories they carry. To kickstart, everyone meet Tracy! Even though it was 37 years ago, I remember it as if it were yesterday. Our third child was born at 2:15 on a Sunday morning. We decided to name her Tracy Ann. After making sure everything was OK, I went home to get a little sleep. When I returned a few hours later everything seemed fine. But then the doctor walked into the room and informed us... that Tracy had Down Syndrome. We were shocked. We had heard the term before, but we really didn’t know exactly what it was or how it would impact our lives. Our first encounter with Hope Haven was when Tracy was three months old. An instructor came to our home and showed us how to teach her basic abilities such as turning over, sitting up, crawling, etc. But we moved to Atlanta shortly thereafter and thus lost contact with them. While in Atlanta, Tracy attended school and had some wonderful teachers, but we were concerned about her transition from school to adult life. This was one of the reasons we decided to move back to Athens. Once Tracy graduated from high school, we looked again to Hope Haven for help. Now, their mission was to provide services for adults with all kinds of disabilities, both physical and mental. They helped us understand how the system worked and administered the Medicaid funds to which Tracy was entitled. Since she had developed some serious debilitating conditions, she qualified for the Medicaid waiver. Because of this, Hope Haven was able to provide services for Tracy in our home five days a week. One of their trained staff members came to our house each weekday and made sure that Tracy was well cared for and received training in essential life skills. The staff member also took her out into the community and helped her interact with others. We have been blessed to have the same faithful staff member take care of Tracy for many years. She has become like part of our family. Tracy even refers to her as her second mother. Her name is Linda, and she is completely reliable, trustworthy, and competent. *continued in comments* See more

Moore to Lead Hope Haven as Executive Director The Board of Directors of Hope Haven of Northeast Georgia announces Amy Moore has been promoted from Associate Executive Director to Executive Director. Moore will replace former executive director Tarin Tripp. Over the course of Moore’s twenty-one-year employment with Hope Haven, she has served in various roles including accounting, human resources, and marketing. We are thrilled that Amy has accepted the position of Executi...ve Director, said Board President, Allison Chesnutt. Her passion for the organization, employees, and individuals served is evident. With Amy’s experience and community connections, she will do great work to continue to advance the mission of Hope Haven. An Oglethorpe County native, Moore received her Bachelor of Science in business with a concentration in Human Resources Management from the University of Phoenix. During her time at Hope Haven, Moore worked closely with the two previous Executive Directors to develop her knowledge and determination for serving people with developmental disabilities in our community. Moore is only the fourth director in Hope Haven’s sixty-two-year history. I am ecstatic about being chosen for the opportunity to lead such a great organization. I have spent the better part of my career at Hope Haven and this organization has become a part of my family. I hope to live up to the expectations of our board of directors, staff, families, and the individuals we support. We have a long history in the Athens community, and I look forward to strengthening our connections both in Athens and the surrounding counties. We certainly can't end DSP week without recognizing the ones that are always there to hold the fort down... our Assistant Managers! These ladies are all Assistant Managers over one of our residential homes. They are all so dedicated and care so much about their individuals. This work is not always easy but you always see them with a smile on their face. We are so grateful for each of them and the hard work they put into this job every day. You four are awesome and we thank you for being awesome Assistant Managers!

Unfortunately, we have a few staff that we would like to highlight but we don't have pictures of so instead we will share their highlights from their supervisors below.. (Part 2) "Shelita S is often referred to as the agency hairdresser! She is always there to take care of the girls' hair when needed. She is always there to take care of her individuals and willing to help out where needed. Shelita is an awesome DSP!" ... "Krystal C is a dedicated and valuable DSP! Most people would refer to Demetrius as Mr. Dependable! He is always willing to work and help out where needed. All the individuals love him but the Pine Valley ladies are always super excited to see Demetrius. He brings a sense of comfort wherever he goes. Thank you Demetrius for being an awesome DSP!

Titonia always puts forth a good effort in everything that she does and she always works to prepare, empower, and connect the individuals that she serves. Thank you Titonia for all your hard work!
