***Important Message for CSD K-5th Parents*** With City Schools of Decatur returning to an in-person learning option for K-5th students on Tuesday, January 19, ...2021, we have been organizing for the return of the School Crossing Guards. Many of the guards are unable to return. We have moved guards from crossing locations for middle and high school students to cover the most essential crossing locations for K-5th students. The guards will be at the locations from 7:00 AM 8:35 AM for student arrival and from 11:00 AM -12:35 PM for student dismissal. Please review the School Crossing Guard location list and plan for the best route to your school. See more

CATALYTIC CONVERTER THEFTS: Over the last few weeks, the Duluth Police Department has taken some reports of theft involving Catalytic Converters. Catalytic conv...erters are typically easy for a thief to remove from a vehicle in as little as a minute or two with a wrench or saw. Although you cannot predict what a thief will do, consider the following tips to help protect your vehicle from catalytic converter theft: In public parking lots, park in well-lit areas near building entrances or busy access roads when possible. When you are at home, park in your garage if you have one. Remember to close the garage door. Try not to leave your vehicle unattended for long periods of time. Thieves tend to target hybrid vehicles, pickups, and SUVs. If you own one of these vehicles, be extra cautious of where you leave your vehicle unattended. Consider contacting your mechanic about ways your catalytic converter can be protected, such as the installation of an after-market device or having the catalytic converter welded in place. Activate your vehicle’s security alarm if it is equipped with one. The goal is to make your vehicle as unattractive a target as possible for catalytic converter theft. The more inconvenient it is for a thief to steal your catalytic converter, the more likely it is that they will move on to an easier target.
It’s the New Year, and one of our resolutions this year is to reduce crime. Many electronic items, firearms, and lawn equipment come with serial numbers or VINs.... Unfortunately, these items are highly sought after by thieves. We often neglect to write down these serial numbers, assuming we will not need them. Start your year off by locating serial numbers on these items, writing them down along with the make and model, and storing this information in a safe place. If the items are stolen, police officers will enter your stolen property into a database. This increases the chances of recovering the items, especially if they show up at a pawn shop. Have a valuable item that doesn’t have a serial number? You can always make one! Engraving items, making unique markings on the item, and other personalization methods help identify your property. Have valuable jewelry that you can’t do this to? Take pictures of the items and store those in a safe location with your serial numbers. #HappyNewYear #2021CrimePrevention #CCPD #ProtectandServe #Community
#SCAM ALERT We would like to warn our residents to be careful who you let work on your lawn, the people knocking on your front door could be a scam. How this ...scam works: Landscapers are going into our Duluth neighborhoods and knocking on doors offering to lay down pine straw for an agreed price. But after the work is done, the men become aggressive and demand a price that is double or even triple the original amount because they claim to have used more pine straw to "properly" cover the area. In the most recent case, the victim wanted an estimate, however, the scammers performed the work and laid down the pine straw before an estimate was given. The scammer then asked for $5,000, the homeowner refused that price but ultimately paid $2,000. These scammers are targeting people who they believe would be vulnerable to bullying. The City of Duluth has an ordinance against solicitation. That means you must have a permit to go door-to-door to sell items or services. If you ever feel uncomfortable, please contact your Duluth Police Department at (770) 476-4151 or 911. Like always. if you see something suspicious, say something!
