Today’s update on Eta! And true to every other update we have seen, Eta’s track has changed. What has changed: The NHC adjusted Eta's track much further to the east and south overnight and early this morning.... Eta now looks to make landfall Thursday morning, near Tampa/St. Petersburg, FL. Storm Total Rainfall has decreased across much of Georgia. Rainfall amounts could continue to decrease if the storm remains on the current track. NWS Atlanta/Peachtree City's outlook area is no longer within the cone of uncertainty associated with Eta A small portion of the southeast coast of GA is still within the cone of uncertainty, that area is south of Savannah. Current Forecast Track for Hurricane Eta: The National Hurricane Center has adjusted the track of Eta much further to the east and south. In addition, the forward speed of Eta has increased and is now expected to make landfall near Tampa/St Petersburg, FL tomorrow morning. Current Storm Total Rainfall through Monday Morning: On average, 1/2" to 2" of rainfall can be expected for the remainder of the week into the weekend. Locally higher amounts are possible, especially across eastern portions of the state. If Eta remains on its current track, rainfall amounts may continue to decrease across the outlook area.

Afternoon Eta Update from the NWS! What has changed: The models are beginning to come into better agreement with the track of Eta. The National Hurricane Center has adjusted the track of Eta to the right. ... NHC says further eastward adjustments in the track may be needed. Primary Hazards for North & Central Georgia: Locally heavy rainfall, especially across the higher terrain of northeast Georgia. Breezy conditions and saturated soils could lead to downed trees. Eta's Current Forecast Track: The track has been adjusted about ~150 miles to the east of the previous track Eta is expected to make landfall late Saturday on the panhandle of Florida north of Apalachee Bay. Eta should be weakening as it moves onshore. Current Storm Total Rainfall (through TUE 11/17): On average, 1" to 3" inches of rainfall can be expected through the next 7 days. Another update from the NWS. Eta’s track has changed again. *** There continues to be a lot of uncertainty with the track and strength of Eta after 72 Hours (Thursday).*** What has Changed:... NHC has adjusted the track further westward with the 4 PM Advisory. The current forecast track has Eta: Remaining over the Gulf of Mexico through much of Saturday. Potentially making landfall across the panhandle of Florida during the latter half of the weekend. Current expected Hazard(s) from Eta for the Outlook Area: Heavy rainfall. With the westward track adjustment and keeping the storm over the Gulf of Mexico a bit longer, the potential for heavy rainfall could continue into the late week or weekend. Breezy conditions and saturated soils could lead to downed trees. forecasted rainfall amounts for the next 7 days are shown in graphic. More on track uncertainty: Our lack of confidence in the track is illustrated in the graphic - a plot of the potential tropical cyclone paths as predicted by the global and hurricane models. The tracks initialize off the west coast of Cuba and are consistent until they reach the Gulf of Mexico. The potential tracks then begin to diverge significantly, becoming a jumbled mess of "spaghetti" that spreads out in many different directions. One of the main reasons for this spread is that the atmospheric conditions that are "steering" the storm are not very strong and even the slightest change in these conditions could cause significant changes in track and possibly the intensity of the storm.

Update on Eta! The NWS still has a good bit of uncertainty on the track (Spaghetti Models look like a toddler's art project) but they have given us their best guess based on historical data. Will get a better idea of timing and track as the week progresses.
