#MemberMonday: Deb Martin has been a dedicated equestrian for over 25 years. Her love for horses started when she was a little girl and continues into today. It was after she fell in love with the Friesian breed, a few years ago, that she decided to get involved with IFSHA. Everyone knows that Friesians are beautiful and magnificent, but it was their personality that drew me to the breed, said Martin. Her first encounter with the breed occured when she was looking for a ...horse and tried a warmblood, which she decided wasn’t for her. At that time the farm had these beautiful black horses and when I asked what they were, they told me ‘Friesians’. I had never heard of them before, but after seeing them and interacting with them I fell in love. Martin started researching and going to keurings. Soon she had her first Friesian, a 7 month old filly. Today, she still has her first filly, who is now 9, as well as a 3 year old filly from that mare and a 4 year old stallion, Boujke, by Beart 411. I think IFSHA is so unique and really gives people the opportunity to show off this amazing breed. IFSHA gives everyone a chance to compete on a level playing field and has a wonderful sense of camaraderie. When asked about her proudest accomplishment, she talked about her first world show in 2019. I had owned my stallion for not even a year and I had the opportunity to not only show him, but to win with him. The support and people at the shows just create a wonderful environment. We are so glad that Martin decided to join IFSHA and loves the breed as much as everyone else.
