If you turned 70 1/2 in 2018, you are required to start taking payments from IRAs and workplace retirement plans by April 1. There are some exceptions, so give us a call if you want to know about your specific situation. http://bit.ly/2TzZ9tK
Start a new business last year? Will the IRS think so too? There are actually 9 factors that the IRS uses to determine if you have a business. We can help you figure this out and get things ordered properly on your tax return. Our eBook here gives a handy summary to help get you started.
What would your financial situation -- both personal and business -- look like in a year if you applied this principle to all of your financial decisions?
We know many adults in that season of life where taking care of their aging parents has become a primary concern. Tax help is available, but the rules have changed a bit with the TCJA this year. The adult dependent exemption is gone, but a new family tax credit is available. Take a look at the requirements, and be sure to bring this up when you come in for your tax filing.
As softwares and auditors expand their reach, time is running out for businesses to figure out and enact sales tax requirements for their remote sales. If your business needs help determining the new tax obligations, we're here for you.
Can your tax software do this? ;)
NEW THIS YEAR: Investment earnings in a 529 Savings Plan can pay for private school tuition tax-free, and many states now offer deductions for contributions into 529 Plans. Find out more details (and additional deductions available) with our free download.
Thinking of self-filing this year? Take a look at this first...
Tax Deadline Alert for Businesses: Big tax deadline coming in about a week on March 15 for Partnerships and S Corporations. Is this you? Are you ready? Call us for any last-minute help you might need.
Yes, you can take the increased standard deduction this year. But what if your calculations are wrong and there is much more that you can do? And then, of course, there is STATE filing to think of -- you might be better served to itemize (or you may not be allowed to, or it won’t save you.) But you won't know unless you do your research -- this guide is a simple way to start.
41 days until the tax deadline... (But who's counting?) ;)
These are all good, safe targets to aim for when starting your own biz. HOWEVER, there is still something to be said for jumping into the deep end and being forced to swim ... or sink.
The IRS does provide an outlet to answer important tax questions you might have. The problem? There is only a 3.5 month window for you to ask those questions. And picking up the phone to call the IRS is kinda like going to the beach without packing any sunscreen (i.e. "I probably know what's gonna happen here but maybe it won't be that bad"). Although touted as a "toll-free" service, the over-the-phone option is often hard to navigate, and can lead to frustrating hold times. So what's an alternative? SOLUTION: Work with a human. One you know and trust. You can call us right this second with any questions you might have. Important tax questions arise throughout the year ... not 3.5 months at a time.
