February is Black History Month and we’re excited to highlight Black innovators who helped influence our education system and beyond. Nannie Helen Burroughs is known for opening the National Training School for Women and Girls. Through her school, Burroughs sought to ensure that Black women had access to education and job training. #blackhistorymonth
Many of the things we depend on and benefit from in our everyday lives have been shaped by countless African American visionaries. We are proud to honor these innovators during #BlackHistoryMonth! Stay tuned this month for a deeper look into individuals who have played integral roles in shaping the field of education and beyond.
The business exposure and collaboration hasn’t stopped at our @3deschools! Recently schools from across the country (yes, country!) competed in the first National Case Competition. Students were tasked by @homedepot with delivering innovative solutions to target DIY customers in their stores. Our very own @apssatlanta students brought home the gold! They beat out multiple teams, and were judged by numerous business professionals, including The Home Depot Chairman & CEO Crai...g Menear. We are so proud of our 3DE students, and thankful for partners like The Home Depot! #partners #innovate #winners
This week we hosted two virtual Town Halls to provide updates to our partners! Our sessions covered the ways we’re currently impacting students virtually through JA BizTown, JA Finance Park and 3DE, as well as exciting new events and JA Discovery Center progress. We are grateful to still be able to carry out our mission despite the challenges this school year has seen, and for our partners who have innovated and engaged with us every step of the way. ... If you’re interested in getting involved in our virtual programming, visit Georgia.ja.org/volunteer. Clearly our staff had fun behind the scenes making these sessions happen!
As Hank Aaron was laid to rest today, our city, state and nation said their final goodbyes to a legend. Aaron's impact stretched far beyond the field and will be felt for years to come. He was inducted into the JA Atlanta Business Hall of Fame in 2000 and will forever be an iconic part of our history. Rest in Peace, Hank.
Today's partner spotlight goes to Engineered Floors. A leader in the floor covering industry, EF is headquartered in Dalton, Georgia. Engineered Floors has a storefront at the Mike and Lynn Cottrell JA Discovery Center at North Georgia and they provided the capital funding for the new JA Discovery Center of Greater Dalton. We cannot wait to open the doors to the state's fourth JA Discovery Center in March, thanks in large part to EF's commitment to Northwest Georgia students!
