Hello fellow Jekyll lovers! My 4th book about the GA barrier islands is out this week. First Light: Callie Maude and Mr. Gould follows an inquisitive cat during the building of the original St. Simons lighthouse. In the pelican illustration you can see Jekyll across the sound. The book is aimed at both adults and children to teach about island ecology and the history of the first lighthouse on SSI. My previous books, Jekyll Journey, Hidden Treasires, and Jekyll Discovery a...re available at businesses throughout Jekyll or directly from me. Like those books, First Light includes a range of educational educational activities for young and old. First Light also features traditional Southern recipes that were used during the period when the lighthouse was built. I’ll be at our Jekyll condo this week and can deliver books during this time. All that’s left is the printing! My fourth book about the Georgia sea islands, First Light: Callie Maude and Mr. Gould, is ready. The St. Simons Island Lighthouse Museum is excited to see the book and carry it in the museum store. This book is very special to me as it is about the original SSI lighthouse, a place I’ve loved since I was a child, and a cat named Callie Maude, my beloved granddaddy’s nickname for me. He gave me his love of animals, antiques, and the outdoors.... First Light will be $18.00, plus media mail postage. The book includes recipes from the early 1800’s and a variety of lighthouse centered activities for children. While aimed at you g people, adults will enjoy the book, too. The illustrations are all detailed watercolors by my friend Laurence Minaire from Lyon, France. They’re much better than my photos look, I promise! Good news! Approval has come through for the rebuilding of the rest of the crossovers to the beach at Villas. I sure have missed the old boardwalk and gazebo. In the meantime, we have the new beach to enjoy, bikes ready to ride, and Driftwood Beach just a short stroll away. Retreat has availability for summer trips. Plan your trip to the island soon!
