Good morning Newnan!! How about another driving post? Following Too Closely O.C.G.A. 40-6-49 says that The driver of a motor vehicle shall not follow ...another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, having due regard for the speed of such vehicles and the traffic upon and the condition of the highway. What does this mean? Basically, that no matter what the vehicle in front of you does (slams on brakes, drives slow, etc), YOU have the responsibility to leave enough space between the front of your vehicle, and the rear of their vehicle so as to be able to stop and avoid a collision . The faster you’re going (within the posted speed limit), the more space you need to leave to allow for reaction time, brake function, and any other factors that may come into play (road conditions , weather , etc). The law does not specify exact distances, however, a general rule of thumb is about 300ft for tractor trailers and other vehicles, and 500ft for emergency vehicles utilizing lights and sirens. If you strike the vehicle in front of you, you were most likely following too closely. Please drive safely as this storm moves in. Turn your headlights on, drive below the speed limit, stay off your phone , and pay attention to the road! Report any power outages to your electricity provider (they do not provide us with information on when it will come back on either). Sorry this doesn’t top the pig post, but hopefully it’s equally as informative! #StaySafeNewnan
