It’s not that cold in Atlanta. But, heading to warmer weather. Looking forward to a productive annual CSSG/GSSG meeting and continuing to work toward advancing spinal deformity research and care in children. #childrensspinefoundation

The below article is about a strong young lady with a bright future. She is a great example of what it means to live your life by your standards and not let her disability interfere with her goals and dreams. I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of her care team and look forward to what her future entails. Keep up the good work Effie! https://www.ledger-enquirer.com//loc/article223345120.html

A great example of technology in medical education and training. We used 3D printed models from CT scans of spinal deformities for a lab with our residents and fellows. They were created with the same density as bone and even a thecal sac to simulate the spinal cord. Very thankful to have access to this technology. Big thank you to Michael Bohl, MD for creating the models and Orthopediatrics for sponsoring the lab. #choa #orthopediatrics #scoliosisresearchsociety #childrensspinefoundation

San Diego will always be a special place for our family. Big thank you to Johnson and Johnson/Depuy Synthes for the invitation and hosting us at the west coast peer to peer meeting this weekend. A fantastic sharing of scoliosis knowledge among neurosurgeons, adult and pediatric spine surgeons. Look forward to the meeting again next year and continuing to advance scoliosis care.

As physicians, no matter what specialty we have all taken care of patients and families involved in shootings. As a pediatric orthopaedist I’ve personally cared for 2 children in the past 3 years who have been involved in shootings. Prior to this as an Orthopaedic resident in an inner city level 1 trauma center we cared for countless victims of gun violence, we went on lock down in the ER when shootings happened within close proximity to the hospital, and we’ve worked tireles...sly to keep a patient alive that ends up succumbing to their gunshot wounds. When the NRA begins to tell physicians we need to stay in our lane, I think they need to pick on a different group. We are exactly in our lane. The purpose of research is to advance care based upon data, not emotion. Physicians are not anti-gun and anti-second amendment rights. What I will say is when the second amendment was written, the only guns available were single shot and inaccurate at best...this is a vastly different time now with fully automatic weapons. Instead of tweeting flagrant remarks, the NRA needs to be willing to openly communicate and discuss both the good and the bad associated with firearms. Perhaps the negative response from physicians to this comment will incite a new rhetoric on gun safety in our country. https://www.nbcnews.com//nra-opens-social-media-war-doctor

Fun and productive Georgia Orthopaedic Society meeting this weekend. We celebrated birthdays, friendships, and partnerships. Our CHOA orthopaedic department shared our experience with the treatment of clavicle fractures, psychological aspects of returning to sports, narcotic use in our post-operative patients, and an update on concussion management. All in all what a great weekend. #childrenshealthcareofatlanta #pediatricorthopedics
