Please read the story about Mr. Arbery from Brunswick, GA. This is a story reported by a number of news agencies. Mr. Arbery was a 25 year old African American jogging through a predominantly white neighborhood who was chased down by a father (Gregory McMichael) and son (Travis), both white. Gregory is a former police officer. There had been some burglaries in that neighborhood. The McMichaels jumped in their truck taking with them 2 guns. They confronted Mr Arbery who refu...sed to stop jogging and talk with them ( Seriously , would you?). The end result is the McMichaels shot and killed this unarmed man under the guise of a citizens’ arrest! I am fairly certain you have to actually observe a person committing a crime to make a citizens’ arrest. You have no authority to make a conscious decision to pursue a person on the belief that the person committed a crime because he is the same race as the person who has committed crimes in the area. Furthermore, as a former police officer, you should know better than to take a weapon to confront someone. How many calls did Mr. McMichaels go on where bringing a weapon to a confrontation left someone dead and someone in prison? By the way, call the police if you are suspicious. You are no longer the police. Tragically, this young man was killed by the McMichaels. NO ONE HAS BEEN ARRESTED!!!! Explain that! 2 DAs have recused themselves. Disheartening to say the least. Justice is needed in this situation. I do not know all the facts and I have relayed this short summary based on various news reports. However, 2 months have passed and this community and this family needs answers. God bless.
