Don't get me wrong, I had already accomplished getting rid of unnecessary purchases but the pandemic really helped me go a bit deeper. We get so distracted that we forget to take a look at what we are spending money on. I use to think I needed to always buy new things. Once I realized that those things might of been used once its like did I really need that ? So I am advising for you all to take a look at what your spending and see if you can cut down on somethings. ... Some examples: you have cable, netflix, Hulu, Disney+ etc. Yea that's just insane. Hulu is cable just gives you another day to watch it so pick between the two. As for the others, I'm sure you're not using all those so remove those you're not really using. Literally could save yourself serious cash. Another one is cellphone upgrades. Do you really need the latest upgrade when you just got the last one a few months ago? Are you going to pay cash for the phone or lease it? If cash hey good for you but if your leasing stop it. Your bill could easily be 65 dollars, but you like to look the part so you pay 65 (services) + 45 for leasing the devices. It's the little things. Start paying attention to what you spend extra on. Ask yourself is it worth it. Be honest. Watch how much money you save. Last week we spoke about the importance of the budget. This week we will focus on how to identify where your money is going. If you haven't already this is what will help you find a solution from living pay check to pay check. To do this take a scrape of paper and write down a list of items that you spent money on for this current month. If you have a checking account you can use your bank statements by printing it out and highlighting items you've spent money on. For ...those who use online banking and have the mobile app, most banks will already have your information in categories within a spending report. Check for this and you'll be able to see a detailed description on your spending habits. The point of this exercise is to identify the areas you may be over spending. Once you've identified this, you can began creating a plan to change that behavior for the good. We all want to live without fear of not having enough to get by. This is a critical step to do so. Budgeting is the way to take control of your life. Remember we want to be able to buy guilt free. Here are some tips that I recommend: 1) Make a list of all bills with the amount and due dates. This allows you to actually see how much your spending on bills each month. It is also the beginning step to establishing a budget. ... 2) Now that you have the amount and dates, it's time to schedule them based on the day you get paid. I recommend picking one or two days out of the month for this. (Ex: the 1st and 15th) This will help lower the chance of feeling overwhelmed and allow you to actually save a bit more in between checks. 3) Choose one account as the main account and another for savings. The goal is to have one centralized place so you may see what comes in vs what goes out. Try picking a checking account that doesn't charge a monthly fee. 4) Set up automated payments to that account for bills and to put away money for your savings. If your not good at managing money focus on just automating savings for now. Set up reminders to pay bills on schedule date.
