The price of homes in Atlanta is expected to outpace the national increase of 5.7%, according to a housing market forecast.

As we are so close to Thanksgiving, our management team has approached this astounding statistic with a little reverence. Out of the top 10 brokerages in Atlanta, ANSLEY had the most growth in the third quarter. We are proud of and thankful for so many things but think this is something that deserves gratitude as well.

Home sales rose in October to their highest level since 2006, powered by rock-bottom interest rates, higher household savings rates, and the desire to splurge for more space as many families -- especially Millennials -- continue to work, eat, learn and do pretty much everything from home. It’s not just existing-home sales, either. The shortage of housing across the country is powering demand for newly built homes, too, which has the knock-on effect of creating jobs in the construction industry and robust sales of things like appliances and furniture.

Homebuilder sentiment, a closely watched gauge for the housing market, is higher than it’s been since 1998, as buyers looking for more space in less dense areas are enticed by record-low interest rates to make their move. (Another sign: Home Depot earnings are through the roof). The flip side is that the cost of lumber is soaring, having more than doubled since April.
