This quote spoke to us this morning- not just with the current state of events- but also with dealing with environmental challenges like littering. City of Newnan (Government) has a trash crew that drives around ALL day, Monday thru Friday, 8am-5pm picking up litter! Many times the road that is cleaned on Monday is dirty again on Tuesday morning . Want to know how you can do YOUR part? ... 1) Keep a bag in your car/truck for your trash. 2) Don’t use your truck bed as a garbage can- trash flies out as you drive. 3) Use a garbage can or see #1 4) When your car trash bag is full, throw it in a garbage can. The side of the road is NOT a garbage can. 5) Do a litter pick up! Keep Newnan Beautiful can provide grabbers, gloves, and trash bags. It’s a great Covid friendly way to give back and make a difference! 6) If you see someone littering, say something! Littering is illegal and sometimes people need a friendly reminder Nicely, offer them a trash bag...or show them the nearest trash can. 7) Do #1-6 EVERY DAY and maybe those little steps will help our AMAZING Litter crew keep Newnan beautiful! #dobeautifulthings #dontbetrashy #reconsiderlitter #keepnewnanbeautiful #recyclerightga #keepitcleangeorgia See more

Remember to Vote YES on Amendment #1 this will enable us to keep the funds in the Solid Waste Trust fund. The Solid Waste Trust Fund was established in 1990 as part of the Georgia Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Act. In 1992, an amendment to the Act established a primary source of funding for the fund in the form of a $1.00 fee on every new tire sold in the state. The funds collected have been used to clean up scrap tires, support statewide recycling initiatives, and ensure the safe management of abandoned landfills. This fund has enabled us to safely remove and recycle over 90 TONS of tires from #cityofnewnanga and #cowetacounty.

Solid Waste Trust Fund Protection in Voter Hands Amendment #1 reads: Shall the Constitution of Georgia be amended so as to authorize the General Assembly to dedicate revenues derived from fees or taxes to the public purpose for which such fees or taxes were intended? The Hazardous Waste Trust Fund (HWTF) is intended to pay for cleaning up hazardous waste sites and helping remediate old, unlined landfills that threaten drinking water and the environment.... The Solid Waste Trust Fund (SWTF) is meant to address landfill emergencies that endanger public health or safety, abandoned landfills, clean up illegal scrap tire piles and dumps, fund recycling and waste-reduction programs, eliminate open dumps, and assist with other solid waste management programs. Since HWTF and SWTF were created in the early 90s, more than 40% of the collected funds have been diverted to pay for other portions of the budget to the tune of over $200 million. Please VOTE YES
