You still have time to submit your upcycled garden art! We’ve mentioned everything from soda can windmills to bottle cap mosaics, but did you know commonly discarded larger items like sinks, bathtubs, and even tires can be transformed into beautiful planters? We’ve even seen faux flowers made from painted hubcaps. We can’t wait to see what you come up with for our #reconsiderlitter Earth Month contest. It incorporates our key initiatives: ending litter, reducing waste, promot...ing recycling, and beautifying communities, and today is the last day to participate. Here’s how to enter: 1) Gather materials from your house or yard that often become litter if not disposed of properlysoda cans, glass bottles, aluminum cans, straws, bottle caps, cardboard, hubcaps, tires, etc. 2) Visit kgbf.org for inspiration, or use your own imagination, to create an upcycled piece of art for your yard, balcony, or windowsill. 3) Post a photo of your creation online by FRIDAY APRIL 23, tagging @keepgeorgiabeautifulfoundation and #reconsiderlitter. Feel free to include yourself in the photo as well. 4) Enjoy the increased beauty of your surroundings! During the last week in April, we will choose one winner in three categories: adult, grades 6-12, and K-5. The prize? A $50 gift certificate to a local restaurant or business of your choice. Thank you for making Georgia cleaner, greener, and more beautiful. See more

A little paint can do wonders on discarded tires! You can transform them into planters, for example, or take it a step further and shape them into animals like swans and fish. (See step two below: we’ve posted examples for you.) You can use tin cans to build a whole family of creatures for your outdoor space. If robots aren’t your thing, try adding googly eyes and paint to make bumblebees or ladybugs. You can even transform one into a lantern by poking some holes and adding a candle inside! Help us keep Georgia clean, green, and beautiful by creating upcycled garden art for our #reconsiderlitter Earth Month contest. It incorporates our key initiatives: ending litter, reducing waste, promoting recycli...ng, and beautifying communities, and is fun for all ages.
