From Lavender Light: JULY 2 "Some people regard discipline as a chore. For me, it is a kind of order that sets me free to fly." Julie Andrews ***** A young man spent a year in India, studying with wise men and gurus. When it came time for him to return home, he asked one of his teachers, "If there is one thing I should know, what would that be?" the reply was "Get a routine and stick to it." This answer seemed very uninspired to the student, and it was years before he fu...lly understood its implications. In order to accomplish anything, we must have a framework. That framework is supported by discipline. The same principle applies to working our program. Each day should include a time set aside for prayer and meditation and a review or our daily schedule. We ask for the guidance and strength necessary to fulfill our daily obligations. Vigilance in this area will keep us spiritually centred and better able to meet life's daily challenges. ***** Help me to take actions that are good for me. Let me overcome laziness or lethargy.

"Growth means change and change involves risk, stepping from the known to the unkown."

"If human beings can be trained for cruelty and greed and a belief in power which comes through hate and fear and force, certainly we can train equally well for greatness and mercy and the power of love which comes because of the strength of the good qualities to be found in the soul of every human being."

First, divine order is actual. Our habitual narrow mental vision prevents us from stepping back and seeing the pattern of our days and lives. Second, let us accept all the roads we’ve taken.... Too often, we cling to our head-shaking guilt and aching regret, repeatedly labeling our choices as catastrophes. Third, without wasteland experiences, we couldn’t be where we are now. Our experiences have come precisely because we’ve needed them. This recognition is without a doubt difficult and embarrassing. But we’ll live with ourselves much more easily when we realize that we’ve chosen each event, consciously or not, for growth. As we admit our choices, we become more open to the lessons we needed to learn. Then we’re ready to allow the next good before us. -Mariln Davis

Stuck in Old Thinking? If we stay where we are, where we’re stuck, where we’re comfortable and safe, we die there. We become like mushrooms, living in the dark, with poop up to our chins. If you want to know only what you already know, you’re dying. You’re saying: Leave me alone; I don’t mind this little rat hole. It’s warm and dry. Really, it’s fine. When nothing new can get in, that’s death. When oxygen can’t find a way in, you die. But new is scary, and new can be disappo...inting, and confusing we had this all figured out, and now we don’t. New is life. Anne Lamott, Help Thanks, Wow: The Three Essential Prayers

Wu wei () is a concept in Taoism sometimes translated as non-action or non-doing. It means aligning with the wisdom of Nature, not taking action based on self-centric thinking. Some problems are best solved simply by staying calm and allowing life to take its natural course.
