In lieu of hosting our in-person spring reception, Community Engagement Manager Julie Schwartz visited our partners to present gifts from Komen Coastal Georgia. 'Our Board is proud to work with such wonderful groups to save lives,' said Julie. During these challenging times, Susan G. Komen continued to provide help thanks to our supporters. 2020-2021 funds were provided to: Diversity Health Center, Coastal Health District, Curtis V. Cooper Primary Health Care, Southeast Georgia Health System, St. Joseph's/Candler, and Hearts & Hands Clinic.
Everyone is at risk of breast cancer, but some of us are at higher risk than others. Your race and where you live should not determine whether you live. Here today to help us learn how to stay on top of our breast health is Dr. April Spencer. Tune in to the latest episode of Real Pink: https://apple.co/2LMAcsi.
Your story is a powerful tool to help others throughout their breast cancer journey. Your story can also shape public policy and protect patients and survivors. Click the link below or email [email protected]. https://bit.ly/komenmystory. @SusanGKomenAdvocacy

"I remember reading that there is a 40% greater likelihood of African American women dying from breast cancer than that of white women. And it’s like, wow, that’s staggering. And even if sharing that statistic helps people understand, we’ve got to tell our stories to everyone, not just African American women, not just women of color, but everyone. We have to continue to share these stories."- Kwanza Jones, breast cancer co-survivor (someone whose loved one is battling cancer). Kwanza is right. By sharing your story, you may influence someone to go in for her mammogram or to do a self-exam. Share your breast cancer story today: https://www.komen.org/share-your-story/
We are sad to share that we have lost one of our dear volunteers, Lis Lipp. Lis chaired our Race for the Cure in 2017 and was an incredibly giving, energetic, and selfless woman. Our sincere sympathies go out to Lis' family. We were blessed to know her .
Breast cancer changed Tyra's life in 2013 when she was just 29 years old. She had triple-negative breast cancer. "I lost two of my favorite women in my life to breast cancer. My grandmother and my kids’ grandmother were both strong women that exemplified strength, courage, and hope. Through my journey of chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation, I saw them in me and I was able to exemplify their strength"- Tyra http://sgk.mn/2Ynpo82 #KnowYourRisk
We are updating our Race traveling team trophy to proudly etch in 2020 Top Fundraising Team to Team Terri! Big thanks to Team Terri for doing so much to save lives .

"In my conversations with other women, I remind them that fear is not going to solve your problem. I stress that ignorance is not bliss and fear might actually kill you. African-American women need to hear, even in my family, that if breast cancer is caught early, it is survivable. That's huge. It's not the death sentence we think it is."- Alicia Cook, breast cancer survivor. Read more of her story: https://bit.ly/39IxlLl.
If you need a mammogram, you may feel overwhelmed and unsure of what to ask your doctor. We've compiled a list of questions to ask your doctor to get the conversation started: http://sgk.mn/36uSdns.
