Get a business bank account (in most cases this costs around $500 to start). Some people got two stimulus checks (one from Trump and one from the SBA). Go to Jr. College first and transfer into a four year college (unless you have scholarships to mitigate the costs) as a Junior. Don’t major in Art or history (no disrespect to Art/history majors). School is a power move you must be able to secure the bag. Majors in STEM will always be needed, are in high demand and the skills can directly help the black community. Get with your peers from your graduating class and others together at homecoming on one day for two hours to plot and strategize how we can move our communities forward (commerce, politics, education, etc...) Give 10% to of your yearly income to your local HBCU (whether you went there or not). If you want to support Black People, support Black Business and Black Institutions of higher Education. Get life insurance (term and whole life) for you and your children as soon as they are born (one thing is for sure is we will die...might as well leave your kids something extra!). The sooner you get it, the cheaper it is. And you can borrow against it to fund certain projects. Also, the ones that pay out dividends are the best! They normally are associated with the market (money market accounts). Get the people in your immediate family to save collectively! If 10 people save $500/month, that’s $60k every year. You could buy 3 starter homes every year and in 4 years all ten of you are home owners. Buy on the same block or neighborhood if you can...this way you control the value of the homes (remember Monopoly!). Do you know Nathan Nearest Green? Many people knew him as Uncle Nearest. He was born into slavery in 1820 in Lynchburg, Tennessee. Not a lot is known about hi...s personal life but we do know he was married to Harriet Green, they had 11 children, and his legacy is still alive today. Jack Daniel, a teenage orphan, was taken in by Dan Call, a local preacher and moonshine distiller. At the same time, Green was owned by Landis & Green and was hired out to Call to be his master distiller for his whiskey company. Later, Call introduced Jack to Green and reportedly said "I want [Jack] to become the world's best whiskey distiller if he wants to be. You help me teach him." Over the years, Green showed Jack the best distilling techniques and processes to make whiskey. The recipe and methods used were African in origin. In 1866, one year after slavery was abolished, Jack opened his own distillery and immediately hired Green and his two sons. Since that time, seven straight generations of Nearest Green's descendants have worked for Jack Daniel Distillery with three direct descendants continuing to work there today. It wasn’t until August 2017 that Jack Daniels Company officially recognized Green as their first master distiller and added him to the company’s website. Green was also the first African American master distiller in the United States. Jack Daniels is sold in 170 countries, is worth over $12 Billion Dollars, and is the world's best-selling whiskey. In July 2017 Uncle Nearest Inc. introduced its own whiskey to the world and is now in 140 countries. Sales from the Uncle Nearest whiskey and the proceeds from sales of Jack Daniels’ official autobiography both provide full scholarships to college and grad school for Green’s descendants.
