LaGrange Youth Council

*CONGRATULATIONS* to our 2020-2021 LaGrange Youth Council! LYC members presented to the LaGrange Mayor and City Council Tuesday (4/13) evening at the regular city council meeting. They spent the year working on two main projects focusing on mental health and mentorship. The group voted earlier in the year to adopt these issues. The LaGrange Youth Council is an advisory board composed of 12 junior and 12 senior high school students from area high schools. The local youth pro...vide advice and counsel to the local governing body. The Youth Council gives our local youth a more formal role in the local decision making process offering real world experiences with elected bodies. Twenty-four students from LaGrange High, Troup High, LaGrange Academy and Springwood School participated in the LaGrange Youth Council for the 2020-2021 school year. The LaGrange Youth Council teamed up with Success by Six to create a series of videos. In the series students read books for children to watch on youtube which helps promote reading in our youth. LYC created a total of 54 videos as well as a youtube channel, which includes the videos, thumbnails, and branding for Success by Six. The LaGrange Youth Council had an in depth Q&A discussion with Mental Health Professional, Dr. Kelly Veal of The Veal Group. They were also joined by some of her students at LaGrange College. Mental Health has been a major concern for the members of LaGrange Youth Council, and this video is in hopes that it answers some questions another young person may have about mental health. The new officers include Chairperson Zoie Mitchell (LaGrange Academy Senior), Vice-Chairperson Caroline Shelton (LaGrange High School Senior), Historian Mary Frances Smith (Springwood School Senior) and Secretary Katy Beth Bedingfield (LaGrange High School Junior).
