Yoga with Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club - LCKC starts up again this weekend!

Work on the new restrooms continues! With the old building gone, this week the foundation of the new building is going in.

Tonight's going to be another great event with more food trucks, new flavors, a new courtesy dock, and you!

Who says all Mondays have to be, well, Mondays?! Not only did demolition begin on the park's restrooms (by the beach, not the plaza) but our new Courtesy Dock was installed! We've more than doubled our slips and boat capacity. Come check it out! Many thanks to Boat Dock Works for getting this installed today!

The recent rains have stirred up a lot of debris. The area north of the park will be impassable for a few days, or at least until after April 1.

Sweep the Hooch is back on Saturday, March 27 with over 50 sites to choose from! Join us at Lake Lanier Olympic Park or a site closer to where you may live. Special thanks to Lake Lanier Association for co-hosting with us at the park!

Our hearts go out to the Crew Club at Iowa State University. The club suffered a tragic loss this weekend during training. We offer condolences to the club members and their families, and the Iowa State community.

This time last year, Lake Lanier's water level was more than 7ft higher than it is today! It was so high that waves were reaching the windows of the park's Tower Meeting Room. Thanks to our staff and City's Public Works team, damage was kept to a minimum.

Today marks the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year. Tonight offers a rare glimpse of a 'Christmas Star'. Look to the southwest tonight to see the combined light reflected from Jupiter and Saturn in this super-rare event!

While it is cold here right now, we can be happy we're not the Northeast. Here's a picture of MIT's sailing club on the Charles River in Boston yesterday. That would be a chilly morning workout!

This was the headline nearly 27 years ago to the day! So much has happened since it was announced that Lake Lanier and Gainesville would host part of the 1996 Olympic Games. The tradition of hosting athletes and fans from around the country and world continues, with Gainesville proudly living up to the moniker "Hospitality Capital of the World".
